Site Admin Update

Post by admin »

Hey folks. Your friendly Swamp Admin here.

As you might have noticed, there's been a small change around here. The Pope has graciously stepped aside - presumably to "minister" to wayward sinners and nuns - and I'm here now.

There are three Swampers with Admin rights to this board - Shirley, Howard, and Brian. None plan to use these privileges often, but someone's gotta have them. The Moderators should be able to handle most issues that pop up (spammers, duplicate threads, etc.) This account - the Admin account - is managed solely by Shirley. Again, I don't plan to be logged in as Admin very often.

As for the server itself (the server hosted by A Small Orange, which runs the phpbb software, along with the database, etc.) - Shirley also has the only admin rights now. I changed the password, so whoever else had access before ... it's now just me. That may change eventually, but it's fine for now.

Thanks again to all who had a hand in getting us to where we are now. Despite internal squabbling, our forum and server seem stable and safe. Let's hope it stays that way.

His IP address was blocked. All of the others are free to come back, and I hope that they do soon.

I don't see any blocked IPs. His account was deleted though. He can create a new one.

Sadly, The Rooster didn't redo my floors. I can't remember why - maybe the quote was too high.

Scottie could be (very) hard to get along with, but he has/had brought some very good things to this site. I enjoyed some of his posts. Getting a muscle on, on the internet, is something I would not miss, at all.

Sometimes I know what I want to express, but words get in the way. I try to think before making wise-ass comments, and that would be a good idea for anyone here.

Excuse me?

No one was blocked; no one was forced out. This place has banned exactly one person in history.

Temporary howard was the Keyser Sozé of the swamp. Can it be said whether he ever truly existed?

The fruity avatar stays until I get an answer.

ETA: I thought Zlax was banned, once upon a time. Before I got here. Please correct my error--has anyone ever been banned?

Ah, Brooshkin. I forgot that one, and I do not recall the circumstances of his exit.

Dougrugby we mentioned not too long ago. I meant to chime in at the time, as I recall he was not banned. He might have had a post or two deleted; in any event I am not sure but I would wager he was not banned. (But then again, I wagered Romney would be president today, so whatever.)

And banning Scottie, if it was done, was like banning rain on the first day of summer. Not likely to be effective.

At his own request. Frankly, we're splitting hairs here.

The important part is that if Romero wants to be a part of the Swamp, he can be and will certainly be welcomed. Same goes for anyone else. Period.

Thirded. Scottie, I hope you never really felt that the general consensus was to use you and lose you. Everyone that left, or may have left, the last couple of days brings something to this place, and hopefully everyone comes back in some way or form.

What's this about Romero being erased at his request? He wrote "Fuck this, I'm gone until Scottie's gone" and then he got erased. That's not a request. If he said something later privately then fine, I'm misinformed, but otherwise, I don't understand why this is being brushed aside.

Yeah, I saw that and debated deleting it. Now that you show me the whole plagiarized line, I'm going to go ahead and do it. It's just Google bait, apparently.

Update - he gone. That's the first spammer we've had to remove in nearly 2.5 months. The anti-spammer stuff we added to the registration page has been incredibly effective. Shambrok was obviously a person and for most, the time we require (it's really not much) makes it not worth the effort.

I didn't get it. The chart he posted made an interesting point, but was very deceptive (gold and oil prices adjusted for inflation, against a dollar index that was not, but it is kinda impossible to make such an adjustment to the dollar index). But such an out of the blue post, w/o any link or other typical spam markings.

I guess he posted something in the mad men thread, which is now gone, so I still don't get it, but no matter.

Hey, dave or someone, could you change the dns settings so <www.sportsfrog.net> will take the visitor to this board, not the blue one? TIA.

Different posters. I didn't do anything with the gold guy. Seemed legit to me. In fact, we should have posted a standard welcome-to the-swamp post or two.

I'll take a look at the DNS settings. Hopefully I can change that.
