Side note is the guy taking that serve is Mansour Bahrami. French-Iranian who has been playing the Senior circuit for 20 years. He is known as the "Court Jester". When I was at Wimbledon, I found those senior doubles matches the most enjoyable. They are fan friendly. Still high level and engaging.

The Nadal-Muller match is amazing. 11-11 in the 5th.

Nadal came back from 0-2, but is something like 2-16 on break points. Muller is 0-4 on match points.

I don't think Nadal can win this match. It looks like he has zero chance of breaking Muller's serve at this point.

Good call. Interesting ripple effect of this marathon is that Djokovic (who would've been my pick to win before today) will lose a day of rest. Every other quarterfinalist finished up today. That helps Federer and Murray (also watch out for Cilic, who has been steamrolling).

why didn't they move Djokovic to Center Court 2 hours ago? It has a roof and they can play until 11

Federer is probably going to win on Sunday, but Cilic +400, which are the odds I'm seeing online, seems like a very good bet to me. Cilic is really good and the fast surface suits his style of play. He beat Federer in straight sets en route to the 2014 US Open title, and also held a 2-set lead against him at Wimbledon last year before losing the last 3 sets.

Venus at +110 is a great bet too (+200 for straight sets). She's going to crush the other girl.

Glad I didn't take this advice. Cilic is +425 here. I'll risk a $20 on that.

Cilic should probably be around +200 or +250, but Fed is such a huge sentimental favorite that I'm sure it's pushing the line a lot in his favor.

Cilic just pulled a "Richie Tenembaum at Windswept Fields breakdown". Wonder if his sister just got married?

Ha. That was really bizarre. The only (real life) thing I could think of was Pete Sampras once broke down in a Grand Slam match like that because his coach was dying of cancer. If I recall correctly, Sampras went on to win the match, but it's not looking so good for Cilic here.

ETA: Here's the Sampras vid. Apparently none of the media knew about his coach so his breakdown similarly seemed to come out of nowhere:

There's a real stigma about players quitting in a final so they will always play it out.
Justine Henin quit in the 2006 Australian Open final and was never forgiven for it.

Who knows if there's anything going on with Cilic physically, but I really did not expect that type of mental/emotional breakdown. That sometimes happens with players who are in their first major final, but Cilic already has a U.S. Open title.

Going into this season, I did not think Federer could win any more majors. But with Djokovic and Murray both looking physically worn down, there's no reason Federer can't win at least 1 or 2 more if he sticks with his plan of playing a limited number of tournaments and gearing up for the Aussie Open, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. (Peak Djokovic was the one guy Federer just couldn't beat the last few years, even if he had his best stuff.) Skipping this year's clay court season altogether was particularly smart, because Nadal was untouchable on clay this year.

Federer could end the year back at #1 while skipping the entire clay court season

Either Federer or Nadal will definitely finish #1. Nadal racked up a ton of points from the clay tournaments but Federer has been cleaning up elsewhere, as he's won all four of the biggest non-clay events (Australia, Indian Wells, Miami, Wimbledon). The question for Federer is how many tournaments he chooses to play besides the U.S. Open, as the reduced schedule has obviously served him well.

I doubt anyone cares besides Degen, but an 18-year old Canadian kid, Denis Shapovalov, just advanced to the semis at the Rogers Cup (a Masters 1000 event -- just one tier down from the Grand Slams). Even before winning tonight, Shapovalov was already the youngest man ever to make the quarters at a Masters 1000, and he has beaten Nadal and Del Potro this week. He'll likely face Alexander Zverev, the best young player in the world, in the semis. Zverev is just 20 and has a good shot at finishing the year ranked #3 in the world.

he's been in the spotlight since Davis Cup in March when he smacked the ump in the face and got defaulted.
the youngest player ever in a master QF is a bit of a technicality. The Masters Series began in 1990, and Michael Chang was 16 when he reached the QF in Cincinnati in 1988 in the predecessor to the Masters.

No, you don't. You just push it on top of the balls. Most of them these days have the double handles that work as a stand too.

Also, those balls in that video are depressurized balls used for teaching.
