The Bruce Arena Experience

Post by P.D.X. »

Roster vs Serbia on Sunday:

GOALKEEPERS (3): David Bingham (San Jose Earthquakes), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake), Luis Robles (New York Red Bulls)

DEFENDERS (8): DaMarcus Beasley (Unattached),Steve Birnbaum (D.C. United), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders FC), Greg Garza (Atlanta United FC), Chad Marshall (Seattle Sounders FC), Jorge Villafaña (Santos Laguna, MEX), Walker Zimmerman (FC Dallas), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)

MIDFIELDERS (9): Alejandro Bedoya (Philadelphia Union), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Benny Feilhaber (Sporting Kansas City), Jermaine Jones (LA Galaxy), Sacha Kljestan (New York Red Bulls), Sebastian Lletget (LA Galaxy), Dax McCarty (Chicago Fire), Darlington Nagbe (Portland Timbers), Chris Pontius (Philadelphia Union)

FORWARDS (3): Juan Agudelo (New England Revolution), Jozy Altidore (Toronto FC), Jordan Morris (Seattle Sounders FC)

Love that Villafaña made the cut after just getting the call up the other day. Could be the future at LB. Also, Wondo sent packing.

Not that it matters too much under the circumstances, but this (Jamaica friendly) might be the single worst corners and set pieces game I have ever seen from a soccer team ever. There was one pretty clever one in the first half. The rest appear to have been designed to facilitate counterattacking from the opponent.

So now the interesting part of the Jurgen v. Arena Experience begins. Timothy Tillman, German-American 18-year old, with Bayren Munich. Maybe a target of Barcelona in the transfer market. Played for the U-15 through U-19 German teams but has sparked interest from the US (US dad). Had a chance to train with the US U-18s...went with the German U-18s instead.

His younger brother, Malik, however, is also a Bayern youth player and he has played for a U.S. U-15 team last summer

Jesse Gonzalez submits his one time switch paperwork. That is a big change from 2 weeks ago when he was all set to go to Mexico. Wonder if that was his agent putting pressure on getting a call up.

So what does the US Depth Chart/Future at Goal look like these days?

Howard
Guzan
Horvorth (not on preliminary Gold Cup Roster)
Gonzalez (Dallas, former Youth Mexican National)
Cody Cropper (MK Dons, U-23 not on preliminary Gold Cup Roster)
Hamid (DC)---Great shot stopper, just can't stay healthy when the MNT comes calling
Johnson (NYCFC)
Bendik (Orlando)
Rimando (RSL, not on preliminary gold cup roster)---nation team career probably over
Little Klinsmann---Probably leaves Cal for a pro contract soon
Tyler Miller (U-23, Sounders)
JT Marcinkowski (u-20 college)
Brady Scott (u-18/u-20,good club team)
Kevin Silva (U-19, UCLA/IMG Academy)
Matthew Freese (Philly Union, U-19)
Noah Lawrence (DC United, U-19)
Brandon Austin (U-18 Spurs)
Trey Muse (u-18 Sounders)

I very much like Sean-John, but is he really even in contention for top 3 american goalie?

A year or two ago I thought it was he or Hamid for the 3rd slot. Neither could get a hold on it or even just step above Rimando (who was such a team guy/locker room presence they liked having him as the #3)

So now Stefan Frei (Sounders) could be coming in play on the goalie depth chart. He represented the Swiss at the youth level but became an American citizen yesterday and could do the one time switch thing.
