The Burlington Sports Frogs moved to within one game of the World Series today, downing the visiting Halifax Machines at Green Mountain Grounds by a score of 5-3. Sports Frogs right fielder Duff was named player of the game after he went 2-2 with a double and 2 walks. The win gives the Sports Frogs a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.

Burlington pinch hitter BigFatJew contributed to the cause with a double in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, BigFatJew did the little things right to help the team.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," BigFatJew said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Green Mountain Grounds. The scheduled starters for the game are Chris Plank for Halifax and Sabo for Burlington.

Notes:
- As seen in the full box score, BFJ came down injured while running out his go-ahead double and had to leave the game. It turned out to be "groin soreness" but isn't serious and he should be fine for the next game.

- I'm not sure what was going on with the AI regarding our pitching. Eight pitchers in a game we won!

Looking back at the boxes for Games 2 and 3, bengal, Johnnie and Shirley were the only relievers used and they all pitched in both games with the day off in-between. Sounds like the AI thought everyone needed some work... without giving a shit about saving anyone in the event of extras.

Are you sure it was not some crazy left v. right and right v. left and pitch type v. batter matchup AI kicked to the extreme?

Also virtual wlu_lax6's box is a Moneyball special. 5 PA. 3BB, 1 Hit by Pitch resulted in a 0-1 day at the plate. I am not sure the bat came off the shoulder.

If you're interested more about strategy: I don't do the in-game managing aside from setting the initial lineup and letting the AI play things out. I did, however, adjust certain strategic settings that govern the AI's decision-making. Here is where I set mine; feel free to pick apart.

The Burlington Sports Frogs have beaten the Halifax Machines and will advance to the World Series.

Burlington won the final game by a 11-3 count to take the series 4-1. The Sports Frogs triumph was no doubt in large part because of the performance of right fielder Gunpowder, who was named MVP of the series.

"The only thing that matters is that we're off to the next round and one step closer to a World Series," he said.

The Burlington Sports Frogs don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Corpus Christi Brinkleys - Oxnard Sugar Beets series. Oxnard leads the series 3 games to 0. The World Series schedule will be announced after the League Championship Series finishes.

Simming ahead, our opponents in the Swamp League World Series will be the Oxnard Sugar Beets, who defeated the Corpus Christi Brinkleys, 4 games to 3, for the Shrew Conference Championship.

Since enough time has passed for all of our starters to be fully rested, I put up a poll for who we want to start Game 1.

On the surface, we'd look to be prohibitive favorites. We had the better regular-season record (101-61 to 89-74), scored over 200 more runs, and Oxnard lost two of their three best starters before the playoffs, leaving them with a makeshift rotation of mediocre or inexperienced pitchers. But—they did get this far, after all...

I just liked the name Oxnard and did some googling to see what would be an appropriately absurd nickname that could lead to a more appropriately absurd mascot. But, not this one from a Montana high school:

Sabo and the Burlington Sports Frogs opened the World Series in brilliant fashion today, shutting out the visiting Oxnard Sugar Beets at Green Mountain Grounds 6-0 and securing an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Sabo, the Sports Frogs right-hander, was named player of the game as he threw 8 innings of shutout ball.

Sabo was in the zone all game. He frustrated Oxnard hitters while giving the Sports Frogs 8.1 innings of quality work. Sabo threw 119 pitches, allowing 2 hits and getting 7 punchouts.
