IIHF World Championships

Post by wlu_lax6 »

Le France upset Finland 5-1. USA at 1-1 (Crushed the Danes but lost 2-1 to Germany). Russia will get better when the Caps get ousted tonight.

Sure this is the top flight but IIHF has a bunch of other "levels' with promotion/relegation. Korea and Austria will be in the top group for the next go around

There's already a Golden Knight there for Russia, so they'll be fine.

2018 is underway in Denmark

USA has a nice mix with Patrick Kane being the biggest name and Quinn Hughes from Michigan as the lone non-pro (and likely lone member of the tribe). Quinn's story is a cool one, projected top pick in the draft, his brother is considered a top draft prospect for 2019, and his youngest is part of the Little Caesars program.

USA beat Canada 5-4 (Shoot out) and Danes 4-0 and have Germany today
Russia 2-0 with 7-0 wins over Austria and France
Canada then stomped on Korea 10-0
Some very lopsided scores
Sweeden 5-0 over Belarus
France 6-2 of Belarus

and Great Britain was promoted to the World Group for the next go around

There are defined tiers in world hockey. Top 6 Then next 8 then the rest.

Since 2007 the two teams that have gone up to the world championships have gone straight back down. Don't have much hope for Korea or Austria to break that streak this year.

Or Great Britain and Italy next year.

Save this for when the Rangers trade for him, but I can't root for a Patrick Kane team. He's the grossest.

Oiler is going to the gold medal game. Fucker is already posting beautiful pics of KBH, and he just got there.

Yeh, I need to save this somewhere for when he joins the blue shirts.

Made it to the semis without him, so they're doing fine anyway. Their surprising win over the Finns has got to make Canada happy, as they now go from a #3 in their group to a likely finalist for the gold.

So sounds like Finland got screwed in the gold medal game against the US at the women's championship.
