Hell, I even sponsored his page at B-R when he came up. So of course it's going to turn out that he's a scumbag.

For now, I'm holding onto the belief that he's young and stupid, that everyone does bad things, and that he can learn and grow.

No. That would be an unambiguously bad and inexcusable thing (if that's what happened). Being young and stupid doesn't just manifest itself in indiscretions - sometimes it end in young/stupid people doing bad stuff, particularly in the heat of the moment or in anger, that an older person would not do.

His being young and stupid doesn't excuse anything, but it may mean that the person is not a lost cause, but instead can grow and learn.
