Agreed. Seems like there's a Shrek character, or Kenneth Branagh role, with something similar. I've been too lazy to search it.

Well there are stats that say it is not as bad shot to take. However, the reaction from fans and teammates is the exact reason most players don't go down the middle. I remember how big a deal this David Vanole save was. Maybe more than the Paul Caliguiri goal.

Combine that with the ref not calling any of the 4 questionable penalties (one was clearly a pk), and you have Arsenal's loss to Stoke. Throw in some outstanding goalkeeping from Butland, too. I hate soccer.

if anybody wants to simulate the draw for the group stage: https://draw.inker.fun/#/cl/gs

there could possibly be some killer groups ... something like Real-PSG-Liverpool-Leipzig for example. As always there'll also be a couple of "meh" groups.

I'm dreading this read. As much as I would have hated to see Sanchez go, risking losing him on a Free transfer is stupid, and completely not Arsene's usual MO. I have to think Arsene is more worried about his legacy and leaving on a horrendous note than he is about the long term best interest of the club. He us risking the same fate for Ox and Ozil. I've always loved the Ox beyond, but I would have taken the stupid amount of money Liverpool threw at Arsenal for him. Wenger mentioned the possibility of extending Sanchez' contract, but I can't imagine Alexis extending. I'll be shocked if Arsenal is in the title race at any point after December, it's going to be an uphill battle to get back into Champions League. No way Sanchez extends if they are back in the CL next year.

Ox to Liverpool for £40 Million. Love the Ox, hate to lose him, hate for Liverpool to gain him, but that is way too much for Ox. Another benefit, Wenger can't use Ox as a wingback anymore. Arsenal's move to 3 CBs and 2 wingbacks has been a complete disaster. Ox isn't a fullback, and he was getting made to look foolish defensively. Maybe this scraps the experiment with the 5 back formation.

Spurs signing Llorente is great news. Unlike Jansenn or (shudder) Soldado, here's a guy who can play and score in the Premier League.

Basically that he wouldn't have been red carded if it were the 1970s.

No, I think the people who say he shouldn't have been red carded are because there was no clear intent to kick the goalie in the head. Which is utterly moronic, but that's the hill some are choosing to die on.

Also it's because Klopp made a big deal about it to take the pressure off his team who just lost 5-0.
and Pep agreed with Klopp because what does he care, he just won 5-0.

Shortest and most underwhelming sack race ever. Crystal Palace have sacked Frank de Boer after just four games (and zero goals).

In his defense, he was just playing the ball and likely didn't expect the goalie to come out that far. It certainly looked accidental. It's not a dangerous play to high kick like that unless another player is there. But, you have to call it when you cleat someone in the face.

I think he had to see the keeper coming or else why would take take a touch at chest level? He would just run onto it.

Most fouls in soccer happen because a player was a second too early or a second too late.

Rooney took out Dele Ali this weekend with a nasty tackle that really was a split second away from being an ankle breaker. That split-second was the difference between a yellow and a suspension.
