I just want Syracuse to somehow get a ten-point lead at LSU on Saturday night, just to make things extra interesting with LSU being a run-heavy team.

Also, they added a toss sweep to the left side that I don't think they previously used under Babers. Makes me think they're doing that to set up a halfback throwback to the QB if they can call it inside the LSU 40. Their starting running back threw a long touchdown pass to a wide receiver off a toss to the right side when they beat Virginia Tech last year.

Yeah, it is amazing how quickly downhill a run-heavy team can go when they get behind, because some of them just can't pass the ball when the opposition knows that's what's coming. Used to see that more in college when the veer and other option attacks were in vogue. And, even in pros, we saw it Sunday with the Cowboys.

Yeah, how about that? I was driving last night and following the game on Gamecast. Just finishing up watching it now.

Pretty incredible win for a team that was a 13.5 point underdog. Boise State beat UVA something like 56-14 a couple of years ago in Charlottesville. In that game, Boise scored on a pick-6 on the first play of the game. Last night, the Broncos drove right down the field for a TD on their first drive. UVA answered with a three-and-out and every Cavalier fan had a bad feeling in their gut.

But ... then. It all slowly and solidly turned around. UVA dominated the rest of the game, emptying the stadium with a 42-14 lead. BSU scored 9 points in the final 2 minutes to make it look better than it was. Even so, it was their worst home loss in 15+ years.

So yeah, you don't often see a game that's a clear inflection point for a program. Not just a team, but a program. As I wrote earlier, there have been lots of signs in Mendenhall's tenure that things are going much better. But the on-field results weren't showing it. It started to look better last week against UConn and really blossomed last night on the blue turf.

The program's foundation and confidence is probably still somewhat fragile, but Bronco Mendenhall is building something and the progress is finally showing.

BIZARRE Michigan game.

Speight gets knocked out early, O'Korn (Houston transfer who's been in the system a full year already) comes in and pretty quickly rips off a 2/3 of the field drive. He then proceeds to play like butt for about the equivalent of a Q. He's about to get sacked with the game at 10-7 Purdue, but pulls a spin move on 3rd down and fires a strike and... Now he's ballin'?

MI's defense is ridiculous. It's probably better than last year's. But Speight was really struggling and now we might have a Pipp situation. My guy up there is not sure. But it sure looked like O'Korn has the potential to play at a higher level.

I'll take 4-0 after losing your starting QB. bye week and then the very shaky Spartans.

-=-=-=

I watched a lot of the Iowa PSU game. I may be cocky about MI's defense, by I don't think Barklay is going to have that kind of day against MI. Iowa is nowhere near as athletic and fast as MI. Not saying he won't get some run, but they are going to be in for a rude awakening trying to just let him out juke MI. The athletes on the other side are going to mitigate a lot of those yards.

PSU needs someone other than Barkley to make some plays. I don't see any of the Big Ten teams dominating this year. It could end up being a 2 loss big ten champ again.

Saquon Barkley was amazing again. Not so much rushing but he became the first B1G player to have a KO return for a TD and a passing TD in the same game.

I would guess Mayfield wins it because of the tendency to favor QBs and the decent chance Oklahoma is undefeated going into the playoff. But Love is pretty ridiculous. I was reading about some of his youth track records and I'm surprised he even played college football. He'd likely already be one of the best US sprinters if he focused on track.

I’ve seen a lot of Stanford this season. Love is exciting and is always a threat to bust a long one. But, Heisman-worthy? I don’t know man.

He's averaging 11 yards a carry through five games!

and to be clear, I think Saquon is the favorite because Penn State is undefeated. so I'm not disagreeing with you. Love is being hindered by Stanford's two losses.

If they were undefeated he'd be the easy favorite though.

Barkley still has to play Michigan and Ohio State. Two teams that are built to stop the run. I'd be surprised if Barkley gets close to 100 yards of rushing and receiving against either team.

Yeah. Combined. Don't get me wrong Barkley's great. But gashing Georgia State, Akron and Indiana does not a Heisman candidate make. (The stats vs Iowa were nice but Iowa is/was overrated.). He'll be judged come rewards time on how he does against Michigan and Ohio State.

You sound like most older Syracuse fans. (I actually really like the new uniforms, especially the gray ones, but the font makes it hard to differentiate some of the numbers.)

Hopefully, this isn't a flash in the pan game.

Colorado State and Nevada combined today for 1,172 total yards. Everybody - the offenses, the defenses, and the refs - must be exhausted.

The only correct realistic hire for Florida is Matt Campbell. Someone (Texas A&M?) this offseason is going to hire Campbell and they're going to get a great head coach for the next quarter century.

I know it's the SEC, but how appealing is a job in that conference when going 12-1 or 11-2 every year (depending on if you see 'Bama before the conference title game) followed by a BCS bowl is okay until, after a couple years, it's not okay because you can't beat Saban, so people want to run you out of town?

Well, if we're talking about FL, we're talking about a fan base that got used to Spurrier and then Urban Meyer. So even though the talent pipeline into that school has never really wavered, they are seeing what happens when a mediocre coaching staff presides... Shit ain't pretty.

/MI fan that lived through the dying days of the Carr era and the clustefuck of RichRod and the malaise of Hoke.
//MI fan who sees other idiot M fans bitching about Harbaugh. STFU, know your (very) recent history assholes.
