Dakich is saying the banner for Louisville is coming down after NCAA denied appeals.

ETA: It should be noted he is saying this on a radio show, not in his capacity as an ESPN employee, so there exists a smaller level of sourcing credibility, I suppose.

You can probably slink away from the "ignored by the human polls" part.

UVA is a great team that could potentially lose as a 1 seed in first roUnd. Or win title.

Yeah, eventually the pollsters figured it out.

Honestly, I don't really care how highly they are ranked. When you're in the top 2, it just adds a huge target and makes it easier for folks to claim you were overrated when you finally lose. But, I was surprised by how little respect they got at the beginning of the season when I thought it should have been fairly obvious they'd be better this year than last.

Just got a ticket to see the UNLV/UNR game up in Reno tomorrow (was driving up there tomorrow morning already).

Should be a good one.

Virginia is the de facto #1 team in the country right now.

If they beat Virginia Tech at home on Saturday (ESPN Gameday!), they'll be the official #1 for the first time since the 1982-83 season.

Luckily, Chaminade isn't on the schedule this year.

It's so weird to see that 1 next to Virginia's name on the scoreboards. And a little bittersweet, because I KNOW they aren't the best team in the country. They've just had marginally the best season so far. And they're among the best teams. Now, there's nowhere to go but down, feeding the haters who love to say that Virginia can never win in March.

I wouldn't worry about it. The tournament is essentially a crapshoot, but one that historically the teams with the best defenses have won. I haven't checked in the last couple years, but at one point every national champion since 2006 (or something like that) had been top 15 in defensive efficiency on KenPom. Getting that #1 seed helps as it gives you a bit of an easier road than a lower seed.

Enjoy the ride and hope to get some bounces your way in March.

So you think the NCAA is pushing the government to hold off on releasing information on this scandal until after April so it does not impact the selection of teams this year? It would be a nightmare if the NCAA gets this information before selection Sunday. They could care less about "Vacating" appearances but having to leave teams out this late in the year because of stuff they know would be bad for business (but probably good news for the Terps chance at getting to the dance).

I'm not sure I'd trust Shaun King's understanding of the arguments of a federal court of appeals argument and decision. They're never going to be about just one thing. From the first comment to the article:
This is wildly misleading. Vanskike is really not a case about the 13th Amendment, even if it did make reference to it. It was about statutory interpretation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

If only he'd be back Saturday!

If only Missouri would be ahead of Kentucky in the standings if they hadn't shit themselves Tuesday night!

Missouri needs to beat Vanderbilt and Arkansas. Not confident heading into Rupp and counting on that team having a disastrous shooting performance again. That makes them 10-8 and gives them a fighting chance for the 4 seed, but likely the 5 or 6 in the SEC tournament

So this Andy Miller spreadsheet shows that his agency paid improper benefits to players at virtually every high-profile program (Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, Michigan St.), and also elite mid-majors like Wichita State and Xavier. Fultz, Josh Jackson, Dennis Smith, Jr. and Bam Adebayo -- all 2017 lottery picks -- were along the guys who Miller paid. This is should just one agent, too, which further shows that there probably isn't a single "clean" program among those that have had any NBA prospects. This could be a turning point for the whole amateurism sham as the NCAA either has to let some rules slide or blow up the whole sport.

I thought he was subdued a bit. KNowing he had this report in his pocket to get to lash out at the big boys means that stance makes more sense.

ALso, reading the report, it looks like this may really be people not associated with any school or steering, but just trying to give money to sign with them later. Which would make it harder to pin any particular school, it seems.

A takeaway for me is that any program, regardless of size and history, likely has these issues if it has pro prospects (and not just future lottery picks) on its roster. Miller was apparently paying Fred Van Vleet when he was at Wichita State, and he's only like the 9th man on the Raptors. I was also impressed that Miller was apparently giving money or benefits to Malcolm Brogdon. Brogdon was a good player at UVA, but has been a much better pro than anyone expected. That's some nice scouting by Miller. (I guess there's a reason NBA teams have started hiring agents to run their front offices.)

I don't know how the NCAA is going to resolve this mess. Ideally, they'd be able to separate the issues of payers being paid to attend certain schools - like the Adidas stuff - from the cases where agents were trying to recruit players to their agency. In the latter, the school is really not involved, particularly if it happens after the kid is already in college.

It looks like the agent had dinner with Brogdon's mom in March, 2016. Brogdon was a fifth-year senior at the time already playing in the NCAA Tournament. Hard to really claim that as a benefit to his college career. It was a $64 dinner. Brogdon's mom is a college professor, while his dad is a lawyer. I'm pretty sure a single $64 dinner wasn't any sort of incentive to modify anyone's behavior.
