My daughter has become a bigger NHL hockey fan as of late. And, she is very interested in the upcoming olympics. So, she is ready to bury an axe in the head of Gary Bettman and the other NHL honchos for not allowing their players into the Olympics. It's kind of heartwarming to see her get so agitated over this issue.

She's get good stories to cheer for as unknown hockey players do well.

MRI details yet to come out, but Joe Thornton did something to his MCL last night, and could be out multiple weeks. That REALLY sucks for the Sharks.

Hopefully just a couple of weeks. That looked like it could have been a career ender. Just scary.

That never happens if he'd signed a one year deal with the Rangers instead.

No, the pattern the Rangers usually suffer is just that the player's performance goes down the tubes once they put on your sweater.

I bumped a very old thread for that reason. Dude has gotten even better production wise and still can stop the nonsense to the point where he has to get counter-run at some point.

The National Capital Commission has reached an agreement in principle with RendezVous LeBreton to redevelop LeBreton Flats, a 21-hectare patch of mostly vacant land beside Ottawa's core.

The Ottawa Senators-led winning bid to develop the land centred around a new NHL arena, also included an accessible community centre, 4,000 units of housing, a French-language public school and public space.

NCC CEO Mark Kristmanson said Wednesday the agreement lays out the conditions for an eventual sale of public land to RendezVous Lebreton.

He said it is the basis of what will still be a challenging negotiation in the weeks ahead.

Negotiating a land deal has been slow-going, with RendezVous LeBreton chosen as the preferred bid in spring 2016.

Senators owner Eugene Melnyk once mused about the team playing in a new downtown rink in the 2020-21.

That timeline is all-but-impossible, with a land deal not expected to be finalized for at least a year — or longer.

What's your guys' opinion on what the trade value of Mike Green would be? I'm thinking it's probably a first rounder.

Getting in a spirited debate here on what, if anything, VGK will look to acquire at the trade deadline and I think McPhee would love to add a defenseman and he has a personal history with Green, so there's trust there. I just don't see Vegas willing to part with a first round pick.

No extras just the "regular" firsts. Also don't have a third in 2018 because of one deal or another so if they trade the 2018 first-rounder at least it will be late in the first round, but that's going to set them back a little in acquiring prospects of course.

Am I wrong in thinking VGK amassed quite a few extra picks in years to come? Or, were most of their extra picks in the 2017 draft?

Not wrong just not a lot of firsts. They had three firsts (6th, 12th and 15th overall) last year. 2019 is where most of their picks are.

In 2019, they have one first and three second-rounders and three third-rounders.

In 2020, they have one first and three second-rounders.

Capfriendly.com has the info.

3 2nds in 2019 and 2020
No 3d this year, but 2 in 2019
Pit's 4th this year, but not their own (shrewd)
Two 5ths in 2018 and 2019
Two 6ths this year
No 7th this year

I don't know ... does Mike Green (even with salary retained?) get a 1st round pick? Seems like teams are smarter than that now.

By way of comparison, Yandle got a top prospect, a 1st and a 2nd but (1) he was paid down under $3MM for two seasons, (2) he's better than Green and (3) I think it was seen as a pretty awful trade at the time. And that's acknowledging that Yandle at $2.8MM is a pretty major asset. I don't know how you mitigate all those factors, but Green for a 1st seems like a pretty bad idea.

At least money/cap room is not an issue.

That's the question I suppose whether Green draws a first rounder or not. Because I'm probably OK with parting with a second for him, depending on how well Sbisa is able to return from his surgery and how badly Merrill is actually injured. When it's all said and done I think McPhee stands pat (or might deal a late round pick for a guy who will be a 7th D/healthy scratch/injury insurance type guy which is also fine if there's concern about health.

The Knights also have Jason Garrison buried in the AHL (though he's up for the game tonight) but I don't get the sense they have any faith in him at this point.

I would think Mike Green could be had for less than a 1st. He’s not what he used to be. Id guess that overpaying for aging vets is the antithesis of McPhee’s plan.

I like that the trade deadline is so late in the season for the NHL at least. Sbisa's recovery timeline will be a lot more clear in four weeks and assuming no other blueline injuries I don't see Vegas doing anything at the trade deadline.

Don’t like floaty cam (doesn’t help that I’m watching on our smaller TV).

Goalies are playing too well.

Doc might be having more fun than the players.

Yeah, I mentioned that to my family last night... Though my take was that he was selling it all a bit too much.

After the last few games, I've come to the (likely very unpopular) opinion that Vegas should ride Neal as long as possible and then trade him at the deadline (assuming they can get the kind of haul that Neal might garner. If they can get a first-rounder and a decent prospect, then I think they have to make that deal. I think even without Neal with a little luck they should have a decent chance to win the division and for this year that should be enough.

Get them prospects and lottery tickets in the draft and shoot for making a Cup run starting in 2019-20.

I’m sure it will be online in a few, but I bet they don’t include him tripping coming into the ice in that group’s first Cup finals against the Wings. That (and his play later in that series) is when I decided I loved him.

Can't remember where I heard or read the story. But there's one going around about Fleury and some teammates stopping at an outdoor rink after a dinner out. Fleury rented a pair of skates and then proceeded to skate as fast as he could down the ice and jump over the end boards, scaring the shit out of the rink workers. Only to find that the only to have them find him over the end boards laughing his ass off.
