GMGM has to be looking at trade options right? I mean just in DC he probably could get Grubauer for some D players or even down to a prospect with the Bears (Copley or Carlson). I understand wanting to keep MAF as your #1 so not giving up too much but there has to be a backup on a rebuilding team could be an option.

Subban should be back in three weeks and MAF before that, so trading any asset right now doesn't make sense. Maybe if they were a Stanley Cup contender, but losing games isn't the end of the world right now.

Yeah, no way in hell he should give up assets to win now. If anything, he feels better about his future in goal than he did a month ago. Now, he's seen both Subban and Dansk play very capably, plus Legace is getting some valuable experience.

It is not about winning now, it is about not ruining a 19 year old WHL prospect by having him get waxed by NHL all stars when they are not ready. Like Kwame Brown getting ruined by MJ. You pickup another AHLer for some other prospect. You probably could even get more in return if you play the game right.

If the coaching is worth a shit (and I'll grant it's too soon to say), it shouldn't matter. Peyton Manning and Troy Aikman both got destroyed their rookie seasons, went 1-15 and ended up as two of the best QBs of all-time. That's only one example. And Legace didn't really project out to much more than an AHL space filling guy you're hoping to develop into maybe a solid NHL backup one day. The argument could be made this might actually be helping him more than hurting him to be facing NHL talent at this point in his career. In three weeks if all goes well, he'll be back to being an AHL backup and this taste of the big time might help his development.

I think wlu is talking about the kid they brought up from juniors, not Lagace (who is 24).

But, I doubt the kid up from juniors will get a whiff of playing time. They will have him back in the WHL after just a few games of bench warming. Before they burn his rookie year.

Oh, gotcha. Yeah, that's just an emergency situation. Legace will get every start until one of the other three goalies come back. If MAF or Subban were going to be out for a couple of months I'd say yeah -- work a deal for a guy or figure out a way to sign a FA with a little gas left in the tank or something (with their salary cap space, that might be the best move. Sign a semi-retired older guy for the league minimum).

ETA: Again, assuming MAF and Subban weren't coming back fairly soon. Which hopefully they are.

How about a 3-way?

To Ottawa:
Matt Duchene

To Nashville:
Kyle Turris

To Colorado
Samuel Girard
Vladislav Kamenev
NSH 2nd
Shane Bowers
Andrew Hammond
OTT 1st
OTT 3rd

Turris should be a decent fit.
Colorado got a great haul. Those are high quality prospects plus the draft picks.

Seems like a great haul for Colorado. Girard could be really good. Looks good for Ottawa, too. I don't know what Nashville is thinking. That's a lot to give up for Kyle Turris.

Eta: Just noticed that some of Colorado's haul came from Ottawa, which makes it a bit more understandable, but I still think Nashville got hosed.

Apparently, Nashville just signed Turris 6 years 36 million.

Man, six years at that price? Turns isn't worth that price or term. He is 28 now. He must have pictures of somebody.

Why didn’t Nashville just refuse to participate unless they’d get Duchene? They traded enough.

Nashville only gave up 2 prospects and a pick. Ottawa gave up Turris, 2 prospects and 2 picks.

Yeah, but Nashville got Turris and Ottawa got Duchene. I know Turris' stats aren't bad, but he played on much better offensive (and defensive) teams than did Duchene.

Yup. I was answering mister d. What would Nashville have to give up to get Duchene?

Right, but doesn’t it appear the key to Colorado was Girard? If so, why facilitate Ottawa versus figuring out how to make it work yourself?

Hard to say. Nashville would have to give up more alone.

At the draft the Islanders offered 2 1sts and 3 2nds and the Avs said no.

I think the more there is probably a 1st if you already gave a 2nd and assume Girard, as their targeted piece, can cover the add'l 1st + more. And you don't have to beat the actual trade if you could have submarined that trade.

Avs probably wanted Ekholm. Avs knew they had many serious suitors and were in no hurry so they played them off each other.

Benn and Byfuglien fought a heavyweight bout against each other the other day. Because they are too good/important to their teams and also big and scary, neither fights much anymore.

And, as always, Lozo is great.

Yeah, but it's not just Oshie that was going to kill this team. They had way too many guys that were coming up on needing to get paid.

And there were a couple of guys they cut loose that I think were undervalued by the GM. Schultz is the main guy I'm thinking of there. But there's a really good argument that losing Marcus Johansen and keeping Kuznetsov is going to be a move regretted down the line.

They definitely treated Johansson as far more disposable than I would have expected, but I wouldn't have dumped Kuznetsov over him (even for a presumably bigger return). The right-est move was probably the one that would be reeeeeeeal tough to make.

McKenzie reporting Rangers chased Duchene but wouldn't part with Skjei which makes me double think Nashville should have forced Ottawa out.

Yep. Fun period. Tough to be an east coast fan when your team is on a west coast road trip. Living in the west is really much better for sports fans.

I hope McDermid gets suspended. The hit was definitely late, despite the protestations of the Kings' coach.

As a general rule, I don't mind the Sharks' two biggest rivals beating up each other. Two goonish teams.
