Yeah, but there were a few weeks there where they managed to tie or actually win a few of their games. I was living in Santa Rosa at the time and it was quite fun to be on board for the ride.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

This was the game I thought the Hawks would put 10 past them. They are playing a Swedish league goalie!

Article is a little old (last week), but touches on something I was thinking -- expansion and specifically to Houston.

Basically Tilman Fertitta, who is buying the Rockets, has a lot of family in Las Vegas and has been following the Golden Knights pretty closely and it's pretty easy to connect the dots to the possibility of seeking an expansion team. Houston would also be a natural match to play in the Central Division and put 8 teams in each division.

The reason why I thought about it is despite Vegas playing above its head, they're showing that a team entering as an expansion team doesn't have to suck for five years. That's going to make the prospect more attractive for some billionaires to write a $500M check. Also, the NHL owners -- likely having spent the $16M they got from Vegas are going to be excited about the prospect of another $16M before too long. They also don't have to share with Vegas until 2022, so another round of expansion for the 19-20 season might happen. I don't think the NHL really wants to expand to Quebec but I wouldn't be surprised to see them get first crack at any relocation of an Eastern Conference team (looking at you, Carolina).

They should move the Panthers there. Then they can give Quebec an expansion team.

and you get Seattle v. Houston to make the bid competitive right? Just need an arena in the Pacific NW. Combine it with a new place for Huskies Hoops to replace Hec Edmundson Pavilion (built in 1927) and you also have a spot for the desired NBA team

I think if there was a legit arena and ownership group the NHL would rather expand to Seattle, but I'm not sure there's either of those things in Seattle right now (definitely not an arena). In Houston you have a billionaire who might want a team and an arena. Frankly, if Fertitta is serious about wanting a team (and there's no indication he does, just speculation) I imagine the NHL would move heaven and earth to make it happen. Houston is by far the largest market in North America without an NHL team.

It appears the Galchenyuk nonsense has hit deadspin which is understandable as news but sucks from the standpoint the audience will expand.

Yeah, agree. I think at this point there are really only three markets viable for an NHL team -- Seattle, Quebec City and Houston. The latter being mostly because of market size and ownership. I'm not as bearish as some people on how a team would do there, but I think it's a fair question.

(Hamilton probably could be a viable market, but it'll never happen as long as MLSE owns the team so not much point debating it.)

It's a state holiday today (Nevada Day, commemorating the date Nevada was added to the union.). All municipal employees have today off work.

Think they were trying to split the difference so that people could get off work early to go to the game instead of taking the whole day off.

Only reason I say that is that anything less than about 82 points is going to be a disappointment. That’s not enough for the playoffs but it’s enough to be relevant in March.

Yeah, it's a big deal out here. He was a Shark for 20 years!

I could've picked the game when we had our season ticket draft, but it's my daughter's birthday, so it's family time tonight. (When I told my daughter I declined the game to hang out with her, she just said, "well you and I could have gone to the game together!" Then I had to scramble and say her that her mum and auntie wouldn't have liked being left out.)

Punishment for not taking Mrazek in the expansion draft.

Wait.

Are the Chicago Wolves allowed to sign their own goalie off the street or do they have to wait for the VGK front office to sign one for them? Will they be forced to start a skater in goal?
