I'd be fine cutting our military funding, but that's a different fight.
You should eat the tax on gas because you use and otherwise benefit from highways.

But they are new to politics, we can't expect them to accurately fill out their disclosure documents! We can trust them with the most sensitive information and national security secrets, because they are smart at business, and created 100s of jobs and stuff. Forget about whether they would have their jobs, they would be charged with crimes under any other administration.

Re: The Indictment Thread (Trump Admin Meltdown Thread Part II)
When I had my security clearance redone in late 2016 I disclosed that at my previous base I had a letter of counseling for, in my leadership's perspective, "being rude" to them.
I was questioned face-to-face about my clearance stuff specifically because that was a red flag. When it got to that point in the interview I had to explain the situation. I'm one-on-one with an investigator with a badge and no lawyer present.
Needless to say I have to watch every word. She's either being empathetic or is acting very well at being so. By the end of it she was stunned I had been given paperwork for not changing out light bulbs. Then she hit me with a curve ball with a question along the lines of "you'd really want to get back at the guy for doing something like this to you, huh?"
Not today, Feds. "Oh, absolutely not ma'am. As squadron superintendent he felt he needed to take a course of action that was appropriate for the situation to him. If he felt like this was it, that's fine. Ultimately paperwork like this doesn't follow me and doesn't impact my career. But I'd never attack someone over it." I was calm and talked slowly, maybe even appeared thrown by the question. My clearance closed out in the next 2 weeks.
So I see this Kushner shit and I'm fucking apoplectic.

So, this latest indictment of the English lawyer for Skadden Arps.
He made his false statements to the FBI and the Special Counsel on November 3. That was four days after Mueller unsealed the first indictments against Manafort and Gates and Papadopoulos's plea.
All these guys were charged with (and P-dos pleaded to) making false statements to the FBI. It was all over the news!
And yet, four days later, Van Der Zwaan made false statements to the FBI. What an idiot.

There's going to have to be a new word invented to describe the sheer level of super-schadenfreude I'm going to feel when Trump Jr., Kushner and some of these other mopes are frog-marched wearing leg irons into federal custody.
If it ever gets to Trump getting indicted (thanks to the coordination with the NY and other state attorneys general that Mueller is working with) then there will need to be a new word for that yet still.

Hard to believe this book isn't intentional parody. I read a few reviews, and as far as I can tell they forgot to include chapters discussing lying, cheating, harassment, adultery, and general ass-hattery, among other possible subjects for review.

But he is a Skadden attorney. They are beyond reproach! Curious to know what he lied about and why. You just never, ever lie to the FBI. They will prosecute. I'm curious what percentage of federal indictments are for lying to the FBI, I bet it's a very high number. Easy as fuck to prove, and the US Attorneys won't take a case unless they are all but guaranteed a conviction. I sent more than 500 cases to the US Attorneys Offices in Eastern District NY, NJ, and a handful to the Southern District of NY, and they took maybe 10. And those were cases to the Civil Division, Criminal is way more difficult to get them to take a case. That doesn't count my pornography seizures, they have me Special Assistant US Attorney status to prosecute the porn seizures myself. Unfortunately, nobody ever came forward to contest the charges on any of my cases, I would have loved to go to trial in Federal Court to criminally charge deviant pornography.*Steve of phpBB wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2018 12:40 pm So, this latest indictment of the English lawyer for Skadden Arps.

But I digress. Lying to the FBI is insanely stupid, especially for an attorney to lie while representing a client, but to do so in the biggest investigation in the history of the US, for a client who was charged for lying to the FBI 4 days prior, is batshit crazy. I mean, that was a bigger scandal than anything during Obama's 8 years, and was the biggest news story of the day until Trump did something else off the charts stupid. I'd love to know the inside story there.

Re: The Indictment Thread (Trump Admin Meltdown Thread Part II)
Yup, although that guy whiled away his Skadden career by hiding from work as much as possible. Made it impossible to find him a job as a recruiter. Skadden has around 3,500 employees and 22 offices in 8 countries, so not much knowledge across the firm.
I know you were joking, but it drives me nuts when the media infers wrongdoing or a conflict of interests because someone once worked at a giant international firm that represented one client. Like Trump saying Mueller had a conflict of interest because he worked at a megafirm that represented Kushner on something, or Breitbart attacking the Gold Star father because he worked at megafirm in DC in 2007, which, 3 years after he left the firm, merged with a London-based megafirm that represented the Saudi Government. Therefore Khan was working for the Saudis in 2016, and since they donated money to Bill's foundation, he was a paid shill for Hillary, and Trump was correct to bash a Muslim gold star hero who threw himself on an IED to save his men. FUCK!

Re: The Indictment Thread (Trump Admin Meltdown Thread Part II)
No doubt, 100% agree. And not just in this case, but since at least the 1930s the FBI and DOJ have used the strategy. They announced the conviction of P-dop and indictments of Gates and Manafort right before the met with Kushner. Gates and Manafort were only charged with money laundering, but neither charged nor cleared of the bigger crimes being investigated, so it was left open for Gates and Manafort to plea bargain out of the bigger crimes if they helped Mueller take down bigger fish. The timing of the announcement was key, because Kushner knew they had verified info from P-dop and possibly the other two, but Kushner had no way of knowing what Mueller knew. The idea is, Kushner will give up info they don't have yet, ut of fear of lying about something they have already confirmed. And if Kushner is too dumb to play, they get him on lying. It's really fun playing out the strategy here, and the sheer brilliance is Mueller's team's ability to keep secrets. Nothing has leaked out of them.P.D.X. wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2018 11:42 amFrom a strategic point of view, it also makes sense to publicize these charges as warning shots to persons of interest that are further up the pecking order. He pleaded to lying about the last time he spoke to Gates (I think), and also about why a certain email had not been produced by Skadden to the FBI.
In other words, stupid little shit. (Although the reason Skadden didn't produce the email was because Van der Zwaan had deleted it. Or so he thought.)

That's why the NY Attorney General is in on this. The President can't pardon state crimes.
Besides, it's not like Kushner would put it on his application anyway.

Re: The Indictment Thread (Trump Admin Meltdown Thread Part II)
In all seriousness, that's the million dollar question and it's all related to the endgame of all of this. When Trump starts to really feel cornered and starts to do stupid shit like firing Rosenstein, pardoning Kushner and his son -- which he will absolutely do -- then the outcry and protests need to be loud and immediate. Anyone who thinks protests don't matter or don't accomplish anything are seeing how absolutely frightened Republican lawmakers and the NRA is over the reaction to Parkland.

More charges filed against Gates and Manafort. Mueller upping the pressure.
ETA: 32 counts of tax fraud, bank fraud and money laundering.
If this investigation is allowed to continue I can't even imagine the stuff they're going to get Trump on. If Manafort is laundering tens of millions of dollars, Trump must have laundered billions for Russian plutocrats and the like.

This is something olds were allowed to get away with 10-15 years ago, because you needed Acrobat. But I think beginning in 2007 MS had an add-on that allowed you to just ‘save as’ a PDF. It’s been baked into Word the past several versions, right?
Of course, I haven’t been on Windows the past decade, so...

Re: The Indictment Thread (Trump Admin Meltdown Thread Part II)
Yeah, it's been baked into the OS (both Mac and Windows) for at least about a decade, maybe even a little longer. It's been in some apps (especially MS Office) for even longer than that.
