During a call with reporters Thursday morning, Ross said Canada's and Mexico's exemptions were linked to the progress of the NAFTA negotiations, which "are taking longer than we had hoped."

The senior (Canadian Government) source, who has direct knowledge of the talks, said the Canada-U.S. committee met Thursday morning to discuss an appropriate response, describing it as "finding a sweet spot."

They said the challenge is coming up with a response that makes sense and allows Canada to be a "credible country."
Wait. Canada imports Maple Syrup?
And I'm confused on why we trade steel for steel... can someone smarter than me explain this one?

Are You Kidding Me?
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said months of intense negotiations between his country, the United States and Mexico imploded Tuesday when Vice President Pence demanded that any deal expire automatically in five years.

Trudeau said he was prepared to travel to Washington this week to try to finalize a rework of the North American Free Trade Agreement, but Pence, in the phone call, said a meeting would occur only if the “sunset” provision was agreed to in advance.

“I had to highlight that there was no possibility of any Canadian prime minister signing a NAFTA deal that included a five-year sunset clause, and obviously the visit didn’t happen,” Trudeau said Thursday.

The Netflix doc series Dirty Money has an episode on the Quebec maple syrup "cartel". It was interesting but difficult to pick a side. Seems like a lot of terrible people all around.

Also, a hot take...Mrs. Butterworths is better than "real" maple syrup.

You guys are Philistines. That's like tasting Scotch for the first time, concluding that it's gross, and then going back to a life of Bud Light.

I'll admit that real syrup is an acquired taste and may not quite be what you expect when you first try it, but once you get used to it, you'll recognize the fake stuff for the garbage it is and never go back.

Nah. It's more like trying a super hoppy IPA and going back to drinking Sam Adams. I recognize the flavor, I just don't like it. It absolutely destroys the flavor of the pancake or waffle.

Also, I really like sausage links when I'm eating something that requires syrup, and there's nothing like Mrs. B's for that.

Is Mrs. Butterworth's substantially different/better than Aunt Jemima and the other big brand "syrups?" Because that shit is terrible and you're insane if you still prefer it after having tried a reasonable quantity of the real thing.

Sorry (not sorry) but I've tried the real thing many times as my wife is a connoisseur of the stuff but I've never been able to embrace it. Mrs. B will remain my one true love. I don't recall if it's any better than Aunt J but I do know it's far superior to that Log Cabin crap.

At least I switched from Margarine to real butter in my 30's so I've got that going for me.

I agree.

How quickly you Americans turn on your most loyal ally and trading partner.

And Carwash is right, preferring the chemical based pseudo-syrup is tantamount to spending one's life singing the praises of wonder bread, Lite Beer and Tim Allen.

So it's the fault of the department of "Justice" (note the clever ironic usage of quotation marks - a move designed to make his followers feel intelligent for figuring it out) that Trump hired sleazeball Manafort.
