No such thing as lying when half sees it as truth and half sees it as trolling.

When someone feels that they are under threat, they tend to believe anything that reinforces their opinions.

Even if it's the idea that 120 year olds came up to Trump as a group to beg for the return of their sons.

You can't argue with idiots.

New York’s attorney general sues Trump family, alleging years of “illegal conduct” at charity
The complaint alleges that the charitable foundation engaged in illegal conduct by using public funding to promote Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, and that the foundation reaped more than $2.8 million to fund his electoral bid.
Shocked, SHOCKED!

I have no idea what's being said, but the propaganda gleaned from this event is off the charts for North Korea:

Every year presidents have had to deal with secretly helping out North Korea (food, aid..etc) and the immediate response from their propaganda channel to their people was something along the lines of "the so called greatest country on earth capitulated to us again by meeting our demands!" Like literal 1984 shit.

So now we get this. I hope Mattis and the DoD have some contingency plan for the short term bump in credibility this lends to them as a legitimate seat at the table.

Then there's this...

I expect this to reverse in due time, but right now...ughh. It probably doesn't stop the quarterly, week-long small exercises. But those show of force joint exercises with South Korea are halted. I really hope there's some long con backdoor thing with us and South Korea, but with this Molotov cocktail government, I have no idea.

The thing Americans just don't get is that image is everything on that peninsula. Like, I've been to the DMZ twice. The South Korean military positioned there are basically the tallest, strongest, runway model lookalikes just to appear like they are better than the North Korean counterparts just yards away.

So yea...I admit I've been ignoring this (I don't watch tv and the inundation of stories have been nauseating), but now that I see it I'm shaking my head again.

At least I can take some small solace in purple hitting back on Twitter:

So there you have it, an American President expresses admiration for the way a subjugated people behave towards their dictator.

Since Trump ran his campaign, it's been a near constant stream of questions that begin "Would you ever have believed that..."

This may take the cake.

For now.

I believe in their heart of hearts many Republicans (the non-deplorables, so let's say about 33 to 50 percent depending on how generous you're being) are embarrassed at Trump* and assuming the Democrats don't nominate a complete loser, many will just choose to not vote and let Trump drown gently in 2020. If you're expecting any of those people to vocally denounce Trump before then, it's not going to happen. (And many of these people account for Trump's approval rating amongst Republicans). This is another reason why I think the polling in 2020 might end up being complete garbage (even moreso than 2016.)

When it comes to politics (and really, frankly most things) people are blinded by the sunk cost fallacy and it makes it hard for these people to admit they were rooked. When it comes time to actually cast a secret ballot though they're off the hook and might not be able to support the Democrat, but it doesn't mean they're going to vote for Trump again. (Might see record high Libertarian voting assuming they nominate a non-dingbat as opposed to Johnson.)

I do agree the Democrats need to have a strong message that doesn't have anything to do with Trump. $15/hr minimum wage and Medicare For All would be a great start (both of those poll at about 65-70 percent amongst all Americans).

* - Despite how it might sound this isn't mutually exclusive from some of these people taking pleasure at Trump "owning the libs", as stupid as that might be. Doesn't mean they actually think he should get a second term though.

Medicare for All should be atleast partially framed as saving Medicare for anyone period. Use conservative fear tactics against them (except this is probably closer to legit).

And consider beating into the ground that "entitlements" are actually "things you have been investing in for literally decades" instead of the "handouts" they are portrayed to be.

Thank you. “Entitlements” might be the most misleading and destructive commonly-used political phrase. Using a word that automatically conjures negative reactions — after all, no one likes people who act “entitled” — to describe any attempt to provide even a minimal level of economic security is bullshit.

Brian: The Republicans would have to act at the nomination stage? They would not let a Democrat win the whitehouse just to let down Trump easy.

It would have to be, i don't know, John Kasich

No, Trump will be the nominee assuming he doesn't die or resign or something, neither of which I'm counting on. Someone may challenge him in the primary, but he'll still win. I'm talking about the general election in November 2020.

There is *no way* the party is bailing on Trump. If they even lose 10% of voters to undying loyalty to Trump, they're fucked. Why do you think anyone looking to break from him is resigning or not running again?

Funniest part about all of this is that Trump can pardon these guys all he wants (for federal crimes), but there's going to be no one left to pardon him for racketeering and obstruction of justice in 2021.
