A cursory glance via a search in my Pocket Casts app yields 17 fantasy baseball based podcasts. One by baseball Prospectus called Flags Fly Forever jumps at me, but I have no idea if it's good or not.

Also, Arian Foster was on Joe Rogan yesterday. They talked about wolves immediately:

Rogan has the best podcast, handsdown. I'm not factoring in the MMA episodes, since I know I can skip those. He has fantastic guests, and is incredibly knowledgeable on a wide range of topics. He was masterful in leading Neil deGrasse Tyson down rabbit holes of mind blowing astrophysics and the like. His group of friends are some of my favorite comedians, so they seem to appear a lot. Arian Foster was really interesting. I knew he was an intelligent guy who isn't afraid to speak out, but damn, he has deep scientific interests and is really funny. His take on the college football player experience was interesting, but I wish they discussed the shit he took for admitting he is an atheist. I loved his admission that he decided to retire when he was sitting on the sidelines and realized he didn't care who won the game, and was thinking about astrophysics instead of the game.

The Crooked Media folks have another podcast in their arsenal in Ana Marie Cox's With Friends Like These.

Her recent one with conservative Rick Wilson is pretty good.

I would prefer if "Crimetown" used some sort of chronological order, especially since they are often referring back to people from previous podcasts. "You may remember This Guy, from episode 2..." Sure, I remember that guy from three months ago who was an ancillary character in that podcast who was mentioned for less than three minutes. I don't know if I would remember some of these people if I binge-listened to all of them.

Yeah, it's true. The Buddy Cianci story would have been better if it was presented that way.

But taken as a stand alone, some of them are incredible. The jewel heist story is crazy.

I've been listening to Crimetown with my kids (didn't realize at first there would be so much swearing), and it's been great. The Buddy Cianci stories aren't nearly as interesting as the mafia stuff, but we still like it. I haven't had too much trouble keeping the people straight, but then we've been listening to one or two episodes a day. That helps.

My kids (and I) love the serial murdering, potty-mouth D&D dungeon master. I did a great impersonation of him running a game that had my kids laughing. "So you fucking open the fucking door, and there are, what, tree or four fucking kobolds in dere? Whattaya gonna do?"

We also loved the mob enforcer turned HSN fitness device hawker.

Great investigating and story telling. The protagonist is awesome! Story twists and turns.. you'll go 'holy shit' a few times.

Does it help to listen to them all at once/in close succession or could it still be easily followed if you only do 2-3 a week?

Folks over at Undisclosed are mixing up how they are doing the season. This go around, they are doing shorter stints on cases and then moving on. Right now they are blowing up the Freddie Gray "official narrative."

If you think you know what happened to Freddie... You probably have a few things locked in your head that just aren't true.

It's definitely worth a listen.. I'm just skipping the Addendum pieces, as I just don't have time for them.

I finally listened to an episode of "Pardon My Take". I was underwhelmed.

I tried listening to "S-Town", and gave up after 1 1/2 episodes. Listening to that John guy annoyed the hell out of me.

I've started listening to "All Fantasy Everything", where a bunch of comedians, led by Ian Karmel, do fantasy drafts. Recent drafts include "Taco Bell Menu Items", "Pop Divas" (Tiffany was a surprise #1 Overall pick), and "Best Towns to spend a weekend in". Pretty silly stuff, but makes me laugh.

There's a new podcast called Twenty Thousand Hertz that's interesting. They are short stories about familiar sounds. Like the NBC Chime or 8-bit theme songs.

I did not know there was a Windsor Hum

I just marvel at the story telling skills on display in podcasts like "S-Town" and "Crimetown." Just fantastic.

And "This American Life" - which can be a bit precious at times - is also filled with great story tellers.

Pardon My Take had Theo Epstein on the other day. Theo talked about how when he was trying to get Schilling to the Red Sox, he saw a "Negotiating for Dummies" book in his office.

Today Curt Schilling is on. I just heard a snippet just now and it sounds fun.

Exactly my thoughts. The story telling is amazing. I'm nearly done with episode 6, and it's probably been my least favorite thus far. It feels like the story is fizzling out a bit. My wife advises that's not the case though.

What makes S Town so good is the way it shifts perspectives so effectively. You think you have something or someone pegged and then you get to hear from them and you're off on another journey.

Really like how the narrator is embedded and part of the story as it unfolds. Some of those situations he's in sound like they can turn Deliverance in any second. (And maybe they do, I'm only half way through.)

Overall, a very good podcast, BUT it really did peter out IMO. The climax to me was the mercury revelation. But as it ended I was left with a feeling of "so what?" John was an interesting character... but not 6-7 hours worth of interesting. I was fascinated by the older Gay gentlemen who John had been friends with. Too many red herrings and misdirections. Not bad, but ultimately, "S-Town" peaked for me in the 2nd or 3rd episode. Once it became clear that the cousins were either not assholes and that there probably wasn;t gold buried all over the property, I felt the show ran out of gas.

I'm partway into episode 7 (the last one) of S-Town. It's good and all, but I'm not sure I get why it's blown up so much. And I'm more than a little fearful that it's going to fizzle at the end with a lot of unresolved storylines. I hope not.

BTW, John B reminds me a lot of my mentor at my first job out of college. He was smart as hell - easily one of the two or three most intelligent people I've ever worked with. But he had demons. He was an alcoholic and eventually drank himself to death. He was a very quirky dude - he aced the SATs, but never went to college. Instead, he lied about his age and joined the Army at 17. He read physics textbooks for fun. He was lonely and antisocial, but clearly craved companionship.

Coincidentally, I met him in Alabama too.

When I finish the podcast and have more time, I may be inspired to write up a long post about him.

Absolutely petered out. I think a major issue, and part of the reason it seems like it would be better if it was shortened is because they thought they had a huge story... which wasn't huge after all. Then, they had several shorter stories of varying lengths, but the only thing linking them was one person, and many of those stories were too short to fill a full podcast of their standard length, but too big to be combined and still fit their time frame.

The "red herrings and misdirections" are essentially filler, cliffhangers that aren't, and so on.

Most of the podcast boils down to an eccentric guy whose eccentricities were made bigger by mental issues.

Third season about Fugazi
Sarah Koenig, host of the popular podcast Serial, made a surprise announcement this weekend that the upcoming third season of the show would focus entirely on trying to identify who else was in Fugazi besides Ian MacKaye.

Yeah, considering Fugazi is an actual band that plays shows and everyone already knows who is/was in it ... it'd be a pretty boring podcast. But with good music.
