Totally on track. Nothing to worry about. Nepotism and cronyism in US Soccer is totally the way to go for administration and coaching.

The way US Soccer is turning back the clock to the 80's, they should bust out some vintage threads for the next set of matches

The really bad thing about this is that they are filling up the coffers with very good talent. IMO, last night was the first nail in the Berhalter coffin.

If they continue to play like that and lose a game or two early in the Hex, he's gone. Not qualifying out of CONCACAF two cycles in a row has the Fed shitting in their hats.

The USSF Spanish language Twitter feed not posting since last November is incomprehensible. Most fucking USL teams in cities with large Latinx populations have accounts in England and Spanish.

I'm not a fire and brimstone, the sky is falling person when it comes to the USMNT. I'm getting old. I've seen some shit. I understand the MNT's talent fluctuations and (most of) the factors that hold the US back and/or propel the US forward.

The Fed failed to take significant corrective action after the debacle of the last cycle. They hired an uninspiring coach a full YEAR after we didn't qualify, putting said uninspired coach into a shitty situation. There was literally nothing done to shake things up, including retaining pretty much the entire C-suite that's been sitting on a pile of cash and being assholes to the USWNT for over a decade.

Absolutely no offense to CAN, but that was a ridiculous performance last night. Absolutely NO plan, at least not with any coherence in terms of going forward. As the article states, and as Twellman dug into repeatedly last night, they simply have no collective understanding of how to play possession soccer out of the back. The one thing you could count on as they rose to the same competitive level as Mexico is that we were going to get after you and force you to gut-check in a HUGE way at some point in the second half. That started to shift under Klinsmann and it has completely vanished at this point.

We aren't Spain, ffs. We will never be Brazil. How about we aspire to be the same level of scary as Iceland? I don't know. But this version of US soccer blows against a team with a semblance of plan.

Ive always thought a pressing, forechecking type of hockey style with lots of shots from outside the box and rebounds would suit the US culture a lot better... but soccer guys want to be european so there it is. Reyna and Bradley are the only two guys that stick out in my mind as suitable.

We seemed surprised but we are still with a USMNT generation that failed to qualify for 2 Olympic cycles. AT least the current U-23s are playing well. They beat El Salavador 6-1 (gave up a PK in the 2nd half).

But that talent gap was the excuse for not making Russia. We can pull up my long ass post mortem which pulled from much smarter than me articles detailing how that team didn't have the necessary tested-but still young horses that power most successful national teams.

We're past that issue, with guys like Pulisic, Sargent, Weah and host of other guys stepping into those roles.

We went from Klinsmann sticking to his "possession out of the back," trying to remake the American soccer psyche to Berhalter pretty much doing the same thing.

Last night, deep into the second half, you still had Sargent - a target striker - tracking back to the top of our 18 on D. Pulisic gets the ball, looks up and sees his holy option is to dribble 4 CAN players and loses the ball (predictably.)

One your star player is in tears of frustration on the bench, there's a SIGNIFICANT problem with the program.

Coaches and Federations want to be Spain.

Canada hired a Spanish coach a few years ago, Florio, and tried to play like Spain. The result was a 8-1 loss in Honduras. Canada's new coach plays the forechecking style and has many flexible systems for different opponents.

Field looked like a sponge last night. 4-0 is probably not a great result but the game looked a whole lot like the one I saw at Audi field. US pushed way up, Cuba just getting pressured over and over and Guzan bored out of his mind (minus one item). But job accomplished and a semi final lined up.

And if I get this right Mexico beat Bermuda 2-1 last night with an injury time goal (at home). Last week DC United's B-team (really closer to the USL side Loudon United) beat Bermuda 4-2. So DC United is better than Mexico.

2 goals and 2 assists in yesterday's UEFA youth league match. That and making the bench for Dortmund's top team last weekend. Going the right direction.

So we have Larry Sunderland in line to take the U-17 gig. Seems like a good choice. Success with the U-16s, Portland Timbers youth director and currently with FC Cinn youth program.

The U-20 job went to Anthony Hudson (Apparently DC United's Nolan Sheldon turned the job down). Former Rapids coach. 8-26-9 is not a great MLS resume. 12-13-14 with the All Whites (NZ) and Bahrian National teams is also not so stellar. He also has coached Tottenham reserve side back in 2010, as well as English Conference Premier club Newport County.

Apparently Earnie is having a hard time filing the coaching tree. SBI is also reporting that North Texas SC coach Eric Quill turned down the U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team job (but he got the USL d3 job in June).

I can't even find a usl d3. Who turns down a national team opportunity to coach summer college players? Maybe that youth gig isn't as good as I think it is but yeah seems earnie is having a hard time.

Well guess we won't have to worry about the soccer tournament in Tokyo. Okay in reality a top 2 finish in the group creates a semifinal that is probably easier than had US not been a tough group. Just need to not botch DR and the CR game will be the critical to finish top 2.

USA, Mexico, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic in Group A
Group B consists of Honduras, El Salvador, Canada, and Haiti

He was the 3rd best coach on the Rapids last year, so.... yeah.

ETA: Actually, that's not fair. He was far, far worse than that. MLS worst start prevented the Rapids from being in the playoffs despite a great second half run. That he ever got another job, any job, coaching in the US is astounding.
