Walter Ray Williams Jr. retired, too.

I was watching the PBA event and both of them were interviewed about their retirement. WRW was all class; PWJ dropped an F bomb.

I had actually never heard this before so when I clicked on that video I was skeptical it would be as good as the build-up, but it was.

Anthony Neuer, an 18-year-old bowler who made it to the TV finals of the 2021 U.S. Open, converted the 7-10 split on live TV. It's only been done on TV four times, and his conversion was the first since 1991.

He lost his match to Jakob Butturff, but still, that's a hell of an accomplishment.

Is it poor form to bunt in this situtation? Im going to need to put the ball in play somehow before I get to 21Ks. Then again she got 21Ks last time out too so maybe overpowering pitchers is just part of the deal in softball.

If you bunt, your teammate in the on-deck circle will hate you so much when the ball is embedded in their ass.

Yeah, it's incredibly poor form to bunt to break up a no hitter. I suppose there could be some conditions where someone reached and it was a 0-0 or 1-0 game and you had a chance to win or tie, but probably still better to swing the bat.

Ask Ben Davis.
It has been 15 years since Davis bunted for a hit against Curt Schilling with one out in the eighth inning on May 26, 2001, spoiling the pitcher's bid at a perfect game against the Padres at Qualcomm Stadium. The bunt infuriated the D-backs because they claimed it broke one of baseball's unwritten rules. Davis disagreed. He bunted because Arizona had only a two-run lead, and by reaching base, he brought the tying run to the plate.

--snip--

Following the top of the ninth, Davis returned to San Diego's dugout. He took a seat next to Tony Gwynn.

"T," Davis said. "Did I do something wrong?"

"Man," Gwynn said. "Forget those guys. You did nothing wrong."

Davis felt better after talking to the future Hall of Famer. Padres manager Bruce Bochy stuck up for Davis in postgame interviews.

"Brenly still holds a grudge," said Davis, who is in his second season in the Phillies' broadcast booth. "He talks about it all the time. We were doing a game last year and [Comcast SportsNet producer] Jeff Halikman said, 'Hey, you're on their TV.' I think Brenly brought it up again duing their broadcast. Their cameras shot into our booth."
“All I'm sayin' is, he comes near me, I'll put him in the wall.”

Exceptions to every rule. If someone does it to Kershaw or Buehler this year, its awful. If someone does it to Bauer, its hilarious and correct.

I was admittedly bummed that in my brief searching about that game that I couldn't find Schilling making derogatory comments about Davis bunting. Certainly was not going to include the quotes I found from Schilling bragging about how great he was throwing that night because that does no one any good.
