It's a little puzzling, but who knows what goes on behind the scenes at FSU. And this season might have opened Fisher's eyes to what another difficult season might be like.

Mostly I think though -- just follow the money. Also, not like it's any tougher to recruit at TXAM vs. FSU.

Jesus. What an unbelievable clusterfuck going on there. Somehow I feel like Butch Jones is just laughing his ass off thinking about the $6 million coming his way (I think that number is about right.)

Will be interesting to see what his next move is by the way consider he's not very well liked by his former players at Central and Cincinnati (I can't speak to Tennessee, but I don't have any reason to think it would be any different).

He's a guy who's never going to be able to stay in a place for very long.

Without a doubt. And believe it or not, he doesn't have any real coordinator experience (he was hired as head coach at CMU after being WR coach at West Virginia). I think he might have been an OC for a year or two at Ferris State (Division II). Guessing he probably lands an OC gig somewhere.

I don't know about that.

The only way this makes any sense is if Fisher really didn't like the AD or if the school overreacted to this one bad season and he didn't like it.

I'll grant it's a somewhat puzzling decision even if you set aside the $75M A&M is paying him, but if Fisher can get four consecutive Top 5 recruiting classes to Florida State he can do it to Texas A&M as well. There is no shortage of elite players in Texas, the Longhorns are (temporarily at least) in a down cycle and other schools like TCU and Houston can be players, but they don't have the name-brand of Texas A&M.

This is an incredible coup for Texas A&M. I predict they win a national championship by 2024.

Clemson wants no part of bama with a month to prepare. Ohio state they will fuck up.

But I think Ohio state will end up benfitting from a confer nice title despite benefitting from not winning one last year.

All of the fox commentators had OSU as the #4 team...that's crazy. ONe or two? ok. But all? The fix is in. Bog 10 gota bigger swinging political dick, even if the SEC has generally had the bigger performance dick.

Y'know, it was ugly as sin, but props to Ohio State for getting that big win over Wisconsin. Pasadena is where the Buckeyes belong, obviously. There is no more appropriate stage for the winner of the Big Ten, even in a down year, than the Rose Bowl.

And honestly, I can't possibly think of a better test for this Ohio State team than Southern Ca...

...wait. What?

FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU WHADDAYA MEAN WE'D PLAY CLEMSON AGAIN

No, let's correct that. It's not even low-key. The narrative of this stupid playoff is rapidly becoming "Ohio State team with an inexplicable loss backs into the Playoff and is placed in no-win situation against Southern power". I am ALREADY ready to be excluded from this narrative, and the committee hasn't found an excuse for slotting us in amid all the screaming yet. If Ohio State gets in over Alabama, it's bitterly unfair to Alabama. I'm saying it in advance. Nobody give Ohio State alum any crap 'round here.

The solution to this "Alabama or Ohio State?" narrative is simple, because there IS an undefeated team that's been top-5 in advanced metrics all season long and is entertaining to watch and would deliver the Florida market, but the American Athletic Conference doesn't exist in this committee's eyes oho let's find an excuse to keep UCF behind a four-loss team.

My cold take is that although I'd take Alabama at #4, the choice will be eminently defensible either way, and not really worth any anger. With the SEC and FSU having down years, OSU played the tougher slate of games and had better wins. The Committee may also be hesitant to give the SEC two bids in a down year. But it'd also be entirely reasonable for the Commitee to just take the four Power-5 teams who have only 1 loss, as they did last year. And there's appeal in setting up a Clemson-Alabama trilogy and an OSU-USC Rosy Fiesta Bowl (as Chuck pointed out).

I don’t think the SEC should get two teams in a four-team Field until it joins the other major conferences and schedules nine conferences games.

Also, if the Big 10 being left out pushes the ball forward on the 8-team playoff that would be just perfect, that is good too.

5 conference champs from the big 5, the best non-big 5 team, and 2 at-large teams. Done and done.

I don't care at that point, really. Win your conference or deal with the vagaries of trying to get in as an at-large. It would, at least, mean that winning the conference absolutely means something. Which would be kinda cool.

Compare it to March Madness where there are complaints about Iowa or whoever getting in over like, Middle Tennessee State, and no one cares because we're talking about the 30th or so best teams in the country so the complaints are diminished.

The complaining now is less than it was, and if you add 4 more teams it will be even easier to dismiss.

Any playoff system that does not give the only undefeated D1 program in the country a shot at the championship is inherently flawed. You shouldn't be made to think / feel like a SJW to recognize this.

If I was better with the search function, I'd go back and just cut and paste what I write every year around this time. I'll keep it short:

Every other sport, particularly all of the other football divisions, has some form of a playoff. It isn't that difficult. If you are worried about the bowls ($), you rotate first and second round games at various bowl less-than bowl venues, then kick it up a notch in the quarters, then rotate the same batch that currently gets the semis and the final.

No one gives a shit about New Year's day games, other than those specific fan bases. Imagine how much more interest ($) would be generated if those games where the quarterfinals (elite 8) on the way to the truly big games a week later.
