NFL 2017 Week 13- Return of Josh Gordon

Post by Rams Fanny »

The NFL has decided NOT to flex the PHI-LAR game to prime time week 14, instead keeping the Bal-Pitt game. This makes no sense to me. Bal-Pit has great history but this is hardly the best game of the week. With all the storylines/young exciting teams Phi-LA seems a no brainer especially since many have not seen Rams play (admittedly including live). According to philly.com, FOX did NOT protect the game which makes it even more puzzling. Does Pit ever play in the 1pmET window after week 8 in any season??

They moved it into the 4:25 p.m. window at least. I think you can safely assume NBC/NFL will never move Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Dallas, etc. out of that Sunday night window unless they're under .500 and probably seldom even then.

I think your initial comment was relevant, as Philly does play Seattle on SNF this week. How often do they run the same team two weeks in a row?

If the Baltimore-Pittsburgh game was a real stinker I don't think they'd have an issue with that, especially since I don't think Philly is maxed out on national broadcasts, but that may have also played a small part in the decision. I think they're very judicious about moving games out of that Sunday night window and probably understandably so.

The 07 Patriots had two games on SNF back-to-back, Week 11 at Buffalo, and Week 12 against Philly. I don't remember if either or both were flexed.

As bad as the Browns are, the Giants are the biggest tire fire in the NFL right now. Benching Eli for Geno Smith solves nothing.

When it comes time to weigh Eli’s career, “benched for Geno Smith” counterbalances at least one SB MVP, right?

Though it's better than Peyton being benched for Brock Osweiler, which given what we know now about his capabilities is especially hilarious.

I know Osweiler has become a punchline now, but he was measurably better than Peyton that last year.

Yeah, no argument. Benching Eli for a guy who everyone knows sucks is really bad and pretty much as obvious a case of intentional tanking you could probably make. Would be one thing if they were benching him for a rookie.

So this marks the Giants integrating their all-time QB position? That's pretty amazing.

I think it's very rare that they'd flex out a game where both teams are still mathematically alive for the playoffs. Not only are they alive but if the season ended right now, the Ravens would be in.

If the Patriots win Sunday, Brady ties the record for QB wins at Ralph Wilson/New Era Stadium since 2001.

For Gordon, yes. For Geno, meh I just think he might have been pretty good if he got a shot a few years ago with a good team. He'll probably have a bad game throwing to Tavares King and everyone will say "OF COURSE CUZ HE SUX!".

Wow. So that's 14 wins I think?

You know that Ben Roethlisberger has the record for most QB wins at the New Browns Stadium with 11? And he didn't get into the league until the stadium was 5 years old.

Spread is 13.

High, but the Chargers are pretty much a lock. This Browns team is making history each week, and the Chargers are on fire.

Very unfortunate for Tom Coughlin in Jacksonville that they picked up Bortles' $19M contract for next season several months ago. Unless the Giants want to bring in Bortles via trade and use him as their bridge quarterback after drafting another one next year....

Watching Geno at practice was jaw dropping. His athleticism, and the velocity and accuracy of his throws was astounding. I was absolutely in awe watching him. Then they did drills with defenders, and he just made horrible decisions. He waited too long to make a throw, didn't see defenders, and didn't throw to the open receiver. It was really remarkable.
