Turned on Countdown just in time for the Burfict is a lovely human being off the field and an old school warrior on the field portion of the program. Nice.

Gerry Dulac - another long time Pittsburgh writer said that Colbert is on the sidelines for just about every away game. I'm hopeful that isn't just wishful thinking. Looked horrible for Shazier.

I've seen a couple of guys say Colbert will be there sometimes, but never talks to Tomlin until late in the game. Could have been good news too, I guess. Letting him know Shazier is ok...

And Mixon got popped now.

Juju definitely shouldn't have done that, but after spending all night talking up Burfict I don't get ESPN all of a sudden needing a solution to get an action out of football.

Oh man. They dropped a shame on him.

As awful as Gruden and McDonough have been, they're right about Bengals/Steelers games. I'm not really enjoying this. Just hate watching, hoping for Cincy to suffer.

No surgery, may head back to Pittsburgh today, as per official statement from the team.

Other reports are that he may have suffered a spinal concussion.

I said it when I saw the replay that Gronkowski deserved more than a one-game suspension for that pile-drive to the head / neck of a defenseless player laying down. Mentioned at the time to my brother down in Tampa that Mike Evans deserved more than he got for the stupid blindside shot he took on a Saints player a few weeks ago, too.

It takes a spinal contusion injury to another player in another day's game to drive that point home. Life's funny that way.

I didn't intend to correct you btw...I was just reading an article about it on another site and came in with my #hottake.

The game's ridiculously dangerous as it is (Shazier's helmet-to-the-body hit > night in hospital > will he regain use of his legs/extremities) without the added aggravated assaults thrown in for good measure.

Good! Because I wasn't completely wrong. Earlier (but still late night) reports said concussion, and the more recent ones say contusion.

Dear everybody on ESPN,

Antonio Bryant was a mediocre wide receiver that played for like 8 teams earlier in the century.

Don;t know what's more offensive - his usage of the word "snowflakes," or the fact that this 80 year old started the post with "Yo."

That' s some pussy-ass shit football being played right there. Where was the helmet-to-helmet collisions. Almost every tackle he wrapped his arms around the ball carrier like a fucking pansy. He should just be driving his shoulder through them while using the crown of his helmet to puncture the ball or a lung or a brain cavity. Fuck that guy. Such a snowflake.

Super tough badass hit me anywhere I know what I signed up for Sam Huff:

Weak millenial Bud Dupree barely even hitting in a non-Sam Huff flag football puss league:

I'm surprised Matt Moore's head didn't fall off. Bud Dupree is much faster than Sam Huff and has 40+ (!!!) pounds on him. The truly hard hits were in the 90s and early 2000s.

Like, come on. What the hell are people talking about with this whitewashing of history? Yeah there was some hard hits back in the day but very few were as violent or as direct to the head as many routinely are today, from absolute monsters who would have looked like space aliens on a field with Sam Huff and Steve Van Buren. Throw Josh Gordon into a game in 1953 and they would have just cancelled the sport, especially since everybody else was drinking before the games as well.

Most old hits to the head are like clotheslines and shoulder/chest shots. Now they are some sort of fuckin' NASA alloy helmets to the earhole.

When i was a kid, we'd drive down to Cleveland and stay in the same hotel as the team the Saturday night before the games.

Biggest human I had ever seen was a Browns' defensive lineman named Walter Johnson. One of the biggest players in the NFL at the time (early 1970s). Just looked him up on Pro Football reference - he was 6' 4" and weighed 265.

Gronk is 6' 6" and 265.

Jack Ham was 6' 1" and 225.

Cam Chancellor is 6' 3" and 235.

It is a different game today. Musberger might as well be bemoaning the fact the NHL goalies wear face masks.
