From 1 October to 30 October, the gf and I did the "Whole 30" diet.

No dairy, no legumes, no processed sugar, no wheat/grains for 30 days. I lost 13 lbs. I ran a few times, but did no significant working out.

It was difficult only in the sense that when everyone is going out to eat for lunch I can't really go. Perimeter shopping and cooking for myself and my gf was easier.

The most eye opening thing is that sugar is in everyfuckingthing. Read the ingredients to any packaged meat. See the word "dextrose"? Don't eat it. Or even see the word "sugar" for no reason? Don't eat that.

What's good to know is that come PT time I can diet like this and exercise and I'll be fine.

Our TJ's (part of a shopping center that turns into Beirut when everything is open) is moving their opening back from 8AM to 9AM in a couple weeks. Not kidding when I say we'll be parked there before it opens like the jackoffs over at the Verizon Store.

They seem to put TJs in horrible parking places. One here in Boulder is in front of a big conglomeration of stores in a mall of sorts that already had horrible parking, they did the TJ in a weird way that only allows going in the most difficult way. The TJs in Denver has a parking lot about a 1/3 of the space and it's on a part of the block that you can only come in easily from on direction.

The one in Cambridge MA is next to a MIcroCentre that's near Harvard and MIT and off one of the worst roads in the universe. Maybe they get tax breaks putting them in a shitty location or something but it's seems to be a thing.

I just looked at the Whole 30 website. Every single thing I eat would be in violation in some form or another. Yikes.

The one in Lexington is a pretty terrible configuration off of a main road. So much so that you almost get rear-ended when turning into the lot because it's such a tight angle you pretty much have to come to a complete stop.

The discussion of chiles in the Culinary Hot Take thread made me think of this.

Trader Joe's Thai Lime and Chile Cashews are a great snack! (They have Thai Lime and Chile Almonds, too.)

Absolutely. Used to pay to have those things shipped and in total it was like 4 times the price. Already have one in the freezer for Christmas morning.

Yeah, maybe it’s just self-selection, but the demo of the employees at TJs is nothing like every other grocery store here, including Whole Foods.

Our local TJ’s has a very diverse employee base, but what makes them different from the employees of the other big grocery stores is that they appear to enjoy their jobs.

the trader joe's we went to was in a very not-diverse part of the city. if we had gone to the one slightly closer to our house it would have been *much* more representative
