That's not the implication of freestyle, Shirley.
(Like one of the last things on the video is Flex talking about how sometimes its "50 takes" to get it right.)

Really? I thought it was, too.
You know what you need? A lyrical sucker punch to the face.

Re: Rap
I'm glad someone started a thread with this title, because I was thinking of starting one to ask for recommendations for beginner/classic rap songs for a 52-year-old white guy.
I have basically never listened to any rap. But I like the beats, and I really like the wordplay and rhymes. I'd prefer not to listen to songs about bitches (daughter), but otherwise I'm not offended by anything offensive.

And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Yeah, that's going to be a big problem. Present day me would never start listening to what I grew up loving because its super slur-y.

It's also problematic because there's so much to choose from. I can't promise ZERO lyrics with the word bitch, but you could start with some of the great East Coast rap like Public Enemy and Wu-Tang Clan.
Maybe start with It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back (Public Enemy) and Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) (Wu-Tang, obvs). The immediate albums after those (Fear Of A Black Planet - PE) and a whole variety of all-time classic solo albums from Wu members (Method Man-Tical, GZA-Liquid Swords, Raekwon-Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, Ol' Dirty Bastard-Return To The 36 Chambers) would also be consider must-listen canon for those artists.
Those groups were much less misogynistic than comparable West Coast rap from the time. (Still a little homophobic, but still probably less so than a lot of time period comps).
(Also, can we talk about how fucking insane it is that Wu-Tang rolled out like four solo albums in that mid-90s period that are basically all considered all-time classics to varying degrees).
Bandwagon fan of the 2023 STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!

Re: Rap
If you're coming in with a relatively blank slate, I'd go chronologically. You'll see the progression and eras and probably better understand why certain albums were considered groundbreaking. Like a lot of people did Nas after Nas which might chip away at how insane Illmatic was/is when it was released.

Re: Rap
This is good. Thanks.
FWIW, I can deal with some songs using the word bitch - I'd just prefer to avoid songs where that's the main event.

Generally agree but "Ether" is a top track of all time for me. Hate Nas the human being, love Nas the rapper.

I know people prefer their old school rappers and all but dropping Kendrick Lamar into 1988 would be like placing Khalil Mack on the 1958 Packers.
