Black Monday

Post by Pruitt »

Jim Caldwell

But not Hue Jackson. Despite being in high demand, he's staying in northern Ohio...

Despite speculation that he could leave if the Bengals come calling for him to replace Marvin Lewis, Jackson insists he's going nowhere and he didn't need to hear it again from Haslam.

Holding my breath. I still think year 16 of Marvin is on the table.

Jack del Rio is out and there are reports that Gruden is coming back to Oakland. That would be a plus for the MNF booth.

Jim Caldwell ends his tenure as the winningest coach in Lions history*, as well as the only Lions coach to never have a season with 10 or more losses and the only Lions coach to serve at least four full seasons and never have at least two seasons with 10 or more losses**

* - Super Bowl era
** - Since the NFL schedule expanded to 16 games in 1978

Not Vance Joseph

Not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, the team started off looking great, then hit a wall and regressed badly. On the other hand, it's not Joseph's fault that John Elway didn't get him better quarterbacks or offensive linemen. Denver was 31st in the league in turnover margin too, which cost them a few games, and probably isn't a reflection of coaching.

Wow...every columnist I've read today in the Denver Post and the Colorado Springs paper all were writing "Nice guy, can't coach" about Joseph.

From the Denver reports I read, it appears he had strong support from the players, so Elway apparently listened to them.

And in the Bay Area, they are saying that the Raiders will conduct a couple token interviews to comply with the Rooney rule, then they'll hire Jon Gruden.

Marvin Lewis and this forum. Both still going, both began their runs at the same time.

Lewis started coaching the Bengals a few months after the Browns played the Steelers in the playoffs.

Also, this is genuinely hilarious. I mean, sure. Why not. It ends when the team re-locates to Portland in 2027 after nine more seasons ranging between 5-11 and 9-7 with two more wild card losses scattered in.

The Portland Bengals fans will get a new head coach.

By the way, saw a report that Hue Jackson is interviewing Ken Zampese for the OC position in Cleveland. That would be absolutely awful, if he were hired. He’s terrible. Seriously, browns fans have suffered enough.

Watching Arsenal this week, the announcer kept point out players born after Wenger joined Arsenal, or Iwobi being born 5 months prior to Wenger's first Arsenal game.

So is the strategy in Cleveland to hire the Marvin Lewis "Coaching Tree?"

Can always count on the Raiders to do dumb shit. This is probably the dumbest head coaching contract in NFL history.

I bet he quits after one year then fucks over whoever will be the color person in the booth by taking his old job back.

Best comment I've seen...

Raiders haven't even moved to Vegas yet and they already have a gambling problem...

Rumors out of Detroit are the Lions have settled on Patricia as head coach. Just have to wait until Pats season is over to finalize the deal.

Regarding Pagano in Indy, this got linked at PFT about the predictability of the Colts offense and how they blew leads.
The 2017 Colts may have finished 4-12, but in their 16-game season, the Colts trailed at halftime in only 6 games. They held halftime leads in 9 games. Yet they went 2-7 in games they led at halftime.

The 2017 Colts are the ONLY team in the last 27 years to lose at least 7 games which they led at halftime.

Their leads didn’t mysteriously evaporate in the 3rd quarter, however. The Colts led through three quarters in 9 games.

The 2017 Colts are the ONLY team in the last 20 years to hold a lead entering the 4th quarter in at least 9 games, but win no more than 4 games.
It goes into play calling (and apparently lack of self-scouting), such as on first down with a fourth quarter lead, If they had less than 3 WRs, they went 100% run, posting 2.4 YPC. On 2nd down in the 4th quarter when winning, if the Colts did not use 11 personnel (3 WRs) they went 100% run. These runs averaged just 1.7 YPC.

Not a good look for potential future employment for Pagano and his offensive staff.
