New Album a Day

Post by A_B »

Hey fudge puppets, pick me something to listen to. I'll post here when I'm around my computer and looking to spin something new. Needs to be something available on spotify or amazon music. Broaden my horizons.

Jessica Lea Mayfield. She popped up to me on a Spotify radio station a while back and I dig her sound.

Three new ones I listened to yesterday:

Rapsody - Laila's Wisdom
Whitney - Light Upon the Lake
Logic - Everybody

I'm on a pretty big hip hop kick lately.

Enjoying this. Sounds like a guy I used to listed to a bit - Chris Knight - voice-wise, but the music is different style.

This one was hit or miss. Couple of ones I enjoyed, but them probably a bit more that I ddidn't dig. Thanks for the rec, though!

Yeah, Sufjan has a higher miss percentage than most because he does so many different things. Anyone who loves everything he puts out is just one Sufjan idea away from spending an hour explaining why him blowing his nose for 20 minutes over a haunting piano track is brilliant.

And I'll put out Wolf Parade's Cry Cry Cry. Key thing to know going in is that they're really two bands with the same members, one that's led by Boeckner (guitarist) that's pretty straight up indie rock and one led by Krug (keyboardist) that's more eccentric.

This is the most accurate way I've ever heard Sufjan fans described. Well done.

What I love of his I think is amazing and he'd be in my top 5 if it all sounded alike which is as much or more of a comment on me than on him. He's crazy talented but with experiment comes some "bad shit".

Moreland is great. Anderson East's new album came out either last Friday or today. Encore. His first album Delilah is awesome.

I’m insanely biased but his Michigan album will always be in my personal top 5. But mostly because he’s from there and I know how personal all the songs are. That album was like a gift to just me.

AB, your taste is very similar to mine, so 2017 albums I could name are probably already known to you (notably Son Volt's "Notes of Blue" and Ray Wylie Hubbard's "Tell the Devil I'm getting there as fast as I can" and Ryan Adams' "Prisoner").

So, I'll throw out a few obscure old albums I think you'd like:
V-Roys "Just Add Ice"
Go to Blazes "Waiting Around for the Crash"
Scott Miller "Upside Downside"
Golden Smog "Down by the old mainstream"
"What a bunch of pedantic pricks." - sybian
