Caspian / Dust & Disquiet

Easily my favorite musical discovery in the past 5 years. Put them on a playlist with Russian Circles, Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, etc...

Never heard of them, but that sounds very promising!

I'll be curious what you think. They don't have a bad record in their catalog, imho, and have been great at varying their sound from album to album.

Oh, well, technically you got 2 albums under your belt then. They were remastered and re-released together a few years back.

Tertia is generally considered their masterpiece, but the production on it is so flat that I couldn't in good conscience select it. Amazing songs to see live though.

I'm trying to think of a funny way to compare this thread to Craig Biggio's career, but I just can't do it. I love the concept too much.

Related to ItAOtS, we were in an ice cream shop on Monday and they were playing the title track and Missus D said "why do I know this" and I told her why and she said "his voice is weird but I think I like it" so all the attempts to let this one grow may have worked. Will give it a run this weekend and see.

This album doesn't have their best songs, and there really isn't one standout track, (except for maybe Into Your Arms). It does however have Belinda Carlisle and a lot of Juliana Hatfield. There are probably at least 10 Lemonheads tracks better than the best one on this album, but I really like just putting this one on and letting it ride.

Well, this would have been my next choice. "Sweet Tea" by Buddy Guy.

So heavy and dense, it's hard to believe that it was released by an old man.

Because dammit....I'm getting Soul Coughing...

What a great band. Too band they all hated each other with the passion of a thousand burning suns.

And if you want a good read about the life being in a struggling band, Mike Doughty's book "The Book Of Drugs" is a great read.

But, of course Rush's earlier draft of the Grateful Dead removes the Jerry Garcia Band from eligibility for draft.

But for my choice, I am going with one of the all-time greats Fela Kuti. Get to know this guy, he created some of the most original, hard-driving and angry music ever produced. A lot of his stuff sounds similar until you get into it, and he released a ton of great albums. "Zombie" wa sthe first one I heard and it blew me away.

But "O.D.O.O" could be his masterpiece - the album I had consisted of two half hour epics ("Overtake Don Overtake, Overtake" and "Confusion Break Bones") Cool funky music that builds to a crescendo while Fela rips apart the venal leaders who are destroying Africa.

Truly one of the greatest artists of the 20th century.
