Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick ***5-4 CHEDDA***
Debated quite a few here, and I'm getting to the point where I'm drafting with a little bit more of a mind towards selecting something that is likely to be picked by the group. My third round pick just celebrated its 20th anniversary. This pick just celebrated its 10th.
Until everything is less insane, I'm mixing weed with wine.

BFJ is the town wizard who runs a magic shop. He also has a golem that he has trained to attack anti-Semites.

I'll grab the other Elvis:
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick ***5-8 DIS***
I like the choice of Elvis Costello. But, just imho, I've always thought that his first three albums (My Aim is True, This Year's Model, and Armed Forces) are much superior than anything since then.

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick ***5-8 DIS***
I had to pick Blood and Chocolate since its got "I Want You"...my favorite EC song..on it. But strong consideration was given to Imperial Bedroom, or any of the first three, or Punch The Clock (even if just for "Shipbuilding")
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick ***5-9 BFJ***
Not my pick, BSF’s.
BFJ is the town wizard who runs a magic shop. He also has a golem that he has trained to attack anti-Semites.
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick ***5-9 BFJ***
I think Mr. D was just assuming that he'd Vike BSF.

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick ***5-9 BSF***
Need some harder stuff in the cabin. I've got a short list here but I feel like I'm just going to start picking stuff I want to spin instead of worrying about who is left.
5th round, BSF's Vinyl Friday selects:
Metallica - Metallica (The Black Album)

Even this non-participant knows that is a very poor choice for a Metallica album.

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick ***5-9 BSF***
Yeah that really was the turning point for them.
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick ***5-9 BSF***
I knew I'd get shit on regardless. People have so many hot takes about Metallica. I like more tracks off this one than any other. Master of Puppets may be better overall but the B-side is no good, but the Black Album gets me Wherever I May Roam, Sad But True, The Unforgiven, etc. I could take or leave Enter Sandman and Nothing Else Matters.DSafetyGuy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2018 11:59 am Even this non-participant knows that is a very poor choice for a Metallica album.
The other contender was Load, which everyone would also shit on me for. Whatever.

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick ***5-9 BSF***
Isn't mockery the point of this exercise?
(Certainly the black album would count as a successful record, and was a great and radio-friendly 'hard rock' album, but fuck me I can't list to Ride the Lightning and not think how fucking good they were in the 80's and how they basically pissed their own legacy away. Load? No. Just no. Good save on that one.)

I know I'll come off as a rube here, but One is still one of my favorite songs. I mean, I could do with out the theatrics, but when they get cranking on that song, I remember hearing that and thinking this was something next level. Kind of reminded me of the better parts of Ozzy (which reminds me...)

Yeah, this is technically a Lita Ford song off a LF album if you're looking for it:

So, my wife had back surgery Monday, and I've been running around like an idiot all week. She's in the hospital and looks like she'll get another night of fun after another rough night.
If I'm out of pocket when it's my pick, apologies. I have something teed up and ready to go, just might not be online for a bit.

That's a great song!

For a few years, the San Jose Sharks always played Enter Sandman as the team took the ice before the game. Got the crowd pumped up, and I'll always associate the song with that.

I will absolutely stipulate that at the time it was not a good look.

I've been following infrequently, but there's an album I'm absolutely appalled has not been picked yet. But I have a good idea who is going to ultimately pick it.
I'll keep silent other than to say that.

Insane Clown Posse you plebeian.
Real talk: There are at least 2 I can think of, one of which is a very tempting pick for a bunch of reasons, the other I never liked despite worldwide fame.

Sorry gents, been sleeping off a cold...
Was worried BSF was going this route.
A proper prog album with all of 3 songs.

Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick ***5-10 RUSH***
Yeah, someone is going to eventually jump on the latter and their cabin will be worse off because of it.Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2018 5:23 pmReal talk: There are at least 2 I can think of, one of which is a very tempting pick for a bunch of reasons, the other I never liked despite worldwide fame.

Fugees - The Score
My cabin needs a little flavor... Or at least it needs to dip into some different waters. And it needs a female influence, and holy shit with this particular female. This album settled into HEAVY rotation when it came out in 96. And just as I was starting to tire of it (I tend to ride songs/albums into the ground) Wyclef Jean came out with Carnival and I was down that rabbit hole for months.
Just in general, my rather uninformed opinion is that a LOT of what happened in the hip-hop realm was affected by this album. Especially the "alternative" scene.
But this album had such an amazing range and, you know... Lauryn Hill is a force of nature. Damn shame she pulled herself out of the game.

I’ll add the album cover when I get home.Yeah, yeah behold, as my odes, manifold on your rhymes
Two MCs can't occupy the same space at the same time
It's against the laws of physics
So weep as your sweet dreams break up like Eurythmics
Rap rejects, my tape deck, ejects projectile
Whether Jew or gentile, I rank top percentile
Many styles, more powerful than gamma rays
My grammar pays, like Carlos Santana plays "Black Magic Woman"
So while you fuming, I'm consuming mango juice under Polaris
You just embarrassed cause it's your last tango in Paris
And even after all my logic and my theory
I add a "Motherfucker" so you ignant niggas hear me
Crew remember take notes, as I sow my rap oats
And for you biting zealots, here's a quote
Another MC lose his life toniiiighhht

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick ***5-11 ENOCHROOT***
That was one of the other two hip-hop albums I was referring two when I had 3 in mind.
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Number 45 is Paul Konerko with 439.

Aw.
Saw them in concert at Brown University. I think Coolio was there, too.

I saw the name and just assumed. It still takes her off the board, but I'd argue that's the wrong album.
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick ***5-11 ENOCHROOT***
Saw them as part of Smokin' Grooves '96 with Tribe, Cypress Hill, Busta, Ziggy Marley and Spearhead.
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick ***5-11 ENOCHROOT***
I think this was 96 also. Spring weekend.
