Right after this draft started, my wife asked if JLP had been selected. It's a great album, for the time.

I think Jagged Little Pill was released right around this time. I could be a decade off though...
That's all kinds of awesome though. Playing a part in an innocuous TV sketch show geared towards kids, and then several years later you're yelling at men and selling millions of records. Kinda like Ani DiFranco, but without the claws.

I know I've said this before, but I really like knowing that she's top percentile among artists who would be bothered to look back on recording a song about irony where most of it isn't ironic. That should really be the official song of this board.
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - PDX (92nd)
I remember listening to this the first time and just being blown away. Don't even remember why I picked it out of all the other CDs I could have purchased that day. Maybe it was the cover. But I am damn glad that I did. This album was a complete change to what this country boy from the corn fields of Indiana was used to listening to. There wasn't much on the radio like Pulp. Could have gone This Is Hardcore, but this was my first introduction to Jarvis and the gang.
Hopefully a couple of the others I passed over will make it back around.
To quote both Bruce Prichard and Tony Schiavone, "Fuck Duff Meltzer."

I'm reducing myself to Eugene Levy here because I'd not have chosen it, but really like the pick.duff wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2018 9:22 pm

Just remembered a fantastic album that's basically a one album wonder for this particular artist. When's my next pick?

I have two guesses and both are good and one is under consideration when I pick ahead of you.

Again to the list. Mr. Jeopardy selects
Brian Eno - Here Come The Warm Jets
He states: (And he was out of Roxy Music by the time "Country Life" was released.)
I Judge Dr. H decides that this isn't a valid selection I do have more requested picks for Pruitt.

I'm having a whale of a time with this one. Got a lot of pics before I come back again. But I think 1-2 might make it back to me and then some of the others I think I'd be happy with just about anything someone else would pick.
So I need to go with the one I'd be mad if I never got to hear again.

You son of a bitch. At least it was the right album this time. And I'm not 100% sure I was going to go there this round, but that's the third time you took a written in pen option, and the second time you did it right before I picked. ATCQ hurt more though.

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - RASS (96th)
What AB mentioned about weighing picks based on the likelihood that they'll make it back to you was just as true in the first round as it is in the sixth, but now that many of the standards are off the board and we're more in personal preference territory, and we've all likely missed out on an album or two we *really* wanted, it feels more urgent.
So looking at my next three options, one has my favorite song among the three, but I think I prefer the other two as a whole. One is a little more out there, maybe even more likely to be mocked, and I think I want it all the more for myself because of that, but I'm also going to bet it lasts to the next round. The final one I judge to be the least likely to not make it back (and based on my Swampcrash record I'm clearly a pro at reading you guys), so I think I'll go with that final band.
See my defense of my Wilco album pick for why I'm favoring a later album from the band's catalog (perhaps more glaring here since both albums I considered are major label releases from former-indie darlings). It's a little more mature sounding than their previous work, at least insomuch that singing about pining away for a bride at her wedding is more mature than singing about breaking up with your girlfriend in college, so I'll go with Narrow Stairs by Death Cab for Cutie.

Man, 3 in the last 6.
So would Transatlanticism qualify as less mature? I've never listened to Narrow Stairs, so I am today. I love the aforementioned as well as Kintsugi.

So once this is done we all agree we pool the 401Ks, buy the cabin (probably in Oregon, though I'd say Canada could work too), leave the wives (Moreta can come too, she's earned it) and head on out?

Losing MMJ hurts. But the correct answers here was It Still Moves. Yeah. It Still Moves. Z would’ve been acceptable, too.

I created a thread once (that I would have sworn was this Swamp but I guess wasn't) concerning "perfect albums but for one song" and Evil Urges and Highly Suspicious was my prime example. The other was Automatic for the People, though even at that point I had softened on Man on the Moon.

I think I remember that thread. Btw, I don’t mean to slam Evil Urges btw. Thing about It Still Moves is that it’s almost an entirely different sounding band. Something about that atmospheric sound they were dabbling in back then. They were starting to get away from it in Z...rass wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2018 10:21 amI created a thread once (that I would have sworn was this Swamp but I guess wasn't) concerning "perfect albums but for one song" and Evil Urges and Highly Suspicious was my prime example. OK...I figure it’s now time to pay attention to my alt country / no depression leanings. With Wilco off the board, I can’t take Being There, or actually It Still Moves when you think of it...
I gotta go with Minneapolis’ The Jayhawks. I’m aware that Hollywood Town Hall is looked to as the pinnacle of the Louris & Olson songwriting duo, but I prefer Tomorrow the Green Grass.
Here’s one of their performances on David Letterman (first track of record, Blue)
