I just assumed that was a quality control position and not that you'd see the results. Figured someone came and collected that.

Well that's good to hear.

At least reactionary and racist ideology has failed to gain a foothold up here.

For us, there is a team of two that manages one ballot box from beginning to end, including counting. There were six ballot boxes at my location. During counting, the candidates can send scruteniers to watch us count and contest any ballots that may or may not be rejected.

But since my station was a landslide, there wasn't any of that. We send everything to Gatineau and if it's a close race, it may get recounted.

The elections in the US are run by states? not federally? So each has different rules.

plus you guys vote for 20 things in one ballot.

Yesterday we voted for one thing. You come into the building, we check your ID and see what polling station you're are assigned to (if you are not registered, we register you on the spot). You then come to the station, we cross your name off, give you a ballot, you go into the booth, mark an X, return it and you're done.

I've been a poll worker 3 times now, this federal election process is flawless and foolproof. You cannot cheat. And the results are known within an hour.

Yeah, just making the point that white supremacy is alive and well in the United States, not trying to say anything about Canada (other than they don't try to systematically disenfranchise minorities at the ballot box).

Agreed and voter suppression is alive and well in the States because there is no reason to have a voting process the way it does. Anyone who tries to defend this is just in denial or supports voter oppression. In every other democracy (and in some non-democracies), voting is made as easy as possible. India recently had elections that lasted 6 weeks to make sure everyone could vote.

"Middle Class Prosperity Minister"

Or, Minister of Weasel Words...
"We have to make sure we represent the realities in a rural, remote or even urban setting, regional differences…and respond to the needs of families."

She added that would be learning more about her role in her mandate letter, which has since been released. In it, Fortier is tasked mainly with supporting the Ministry of Finance. However, the few times the words "middle class" are mentioned in the letter, their definition remains unclear.

"You will develop cross-government approaches to ensure that the prosperity and quality of life of the middle class are central to government policy-making," the mandate letter reads.

Eh.

A REAL political win would be to approve with conditions knowing they won't ever be met, and sending money to Alberta anyway.

That way they can save face in Quebec, while telling Alberta they are doing everything they can to help us.

Train Blockades Getting Serious

Time for our confrontation-averse PM to do something. Heating oil supplies are running low in the Maritimes. All passenger train travel has been cancelled nationwide.

These protesters block tracks along commuter lines into Toronto or Montreal or Vancouver, all hell could break loose.

(In a polite Canadian way of course)

CN Rail is laying off about 450 workers in its operations in Eastern Canada after cancelling more than 400 trains in the past week over a rail blockade protesting an LNG pipeline in British Columbia.

The layoffs will affect operational staff, including employees working at Autoport in Eastern Passage, Moncton, Charny and Montreal.

The Conservatives are having their leadership convention to choose a new leader after Andrew Scheer resigned. It's done 100% by mail-in ballot sent in over the last few weeks by party members. There is a delay because the envelope tearing machine malfunctioned and ripped the entire ballot. It's not huge, 1,000 ballots out of 175,000 but these ballots have to either be taped back together (matching barcodes), or have to be transferred to a new ballot with scrutineers on board. They're expecting a 3 hour delay to start the show, now 9pm. This is the new world.

The favorites are Erin O'Toole, Peter MacKay but in a ranked ballot, if neither of them win on the first ballot, Leslyn Lewis might win on subsequent ballots. She would become Canada's first ever black leader of a major party. Stay tuned.

We wanted to see results at 7 or so and my jaw dropped at the complete incompetence of these idiots.

And then Scheer gave his farewell speech showing why most Canadians hate the very sight of him. Sweaty, unctuous, stiff and throwing out a bunch of Trumpian-cliches ("Mainstream Media") while urging loyal party members to reach out to their neighbours who (paraphrase) "may not know that they are really Conservatives").

Like a lame MLM presentation.

And then they choose a unilingual guy who looks like a sadistic shop teacher.

This is why Trudeau - as incompetent and corrupt as he is - will win the next election (as Degen said)

I really wanted Lewis to win as that would have turned everything upside down. And she was closer than people think. She was 1000 points behind MacKay on the 2nd ballot. Would be interesting to see how the #2s on Mackay's ballot breakdown, but well never know.

Scheer's attack on mainstream media is so bunk. They hate it but planned the convention all around primetime mainstream coverage. Continuing to bash media is a failed strategy.

Thing with Trudeau is that he grew up in and around politics. He knows what he's doing, but is too arrogant to stop himself.

Arrogance is a Trudeau family trait, but at least his father was a very, very smart man. Justin got his mother's brains.

We had a by-election in our riding yesterday (when a sitting Member of Parliament dies or resigns his or her seat, there's a special election to fill the seat). There were two of these yesterday, each in a very ethnically diverse Toronto riding.

Anyway, Bernier is so desperate for a job, or for relevance that he ran in my riding. As "Max" Bernier. He had a "5 Point Plan"

"1) End Mass Immigration

2) End UN Globalisation

3) End Covid Restrictions

4) End to Climate Alarmism

5) Lower Grocery Prices"

#5 made me laugh.

He got 600 out of 18,000 votes. Makes me very happy indeed.

Now the Alberta municipal affairs minister has taken a trip to Hawaii. This is the Minister responsible for the vaccinate roll-out. The roll-out that see's Alberta last amongst all provinces in nearly every distribution metric.
