Right. They can’t send him back to the Minors without him clearing waivers. As soon as Sanchez says “Uh, yeah I felt something,” they did their diligence and found something on an MRI. He’s a freakin catcher on an MLB team that actually just came back from the DL on a groin thing. An MRI was going to net them evidence to send him back to the disabled list. He’ll rehab a bit longer this time. There’s even chatter the Yankees might be in the market for a legit upgrade at BUC to hedge the situation in the event Sanchez continues to urinate his career away.

Yes, he’s a HOF caliber talent who has the well-deserved knock of not giving his best effort, albeit from a lack of ability to focus or simply has a lack of fucks to give. The dude’s got issues to resolve.

I mean, do you not agree with this?

I agree Sanchez would be a better player without the attention/effort lapses. I don't think the best hitting catcher since being called up is at any risk of pissing away his career if he doesn't address that.

Wow, Yankees are so mad they're keeping the "injured" player out until late August or early September.

Be sure to check out how Sergio Romo got a save today even though someone pitched after him. Kevin Cash should go directly to the HOF.

So, I've been out of the baseball loop intentionally for a couple seasons now. But I'm curious what the world thinks of what the Rays seem to be doing. Reliever day? Continued shifts? Two pitchers at one time.

It's almost enough to make me interested in the sport again. Then the team wants to have the local community on the hook for over $500m, and I'm back to fuck them again.
Until everything is less insane, I'm mixing weed with wine.

If you look at the roster, they should probably suck but they don't suck, so its working to some extent. I do wonder how usage outside of prior norms will wear on their pitchers at the end of the season and in a year or two.

You'd have to put him in the field for parts of at least 3 or 4 innings*, but I think we may live to see someone get a win and a save in the same game.

I don't remember the circumstances, but I know the 80s Mets did this with Orosco and McDowell in RF but it was a one-off. And I think one of them had to make a play out there. Anyway, there are going to be a lot of new rules in the next few years to stop things like this.

Why would you stop it? If a guy can play decent enough defense to not have to come out of the game to be able to pitch to the right matchup, then so be it.

No, not sure he got to throw any pitches at all and as a one off (especially from 3B) its not a drain. But if it became regular and knowing the "easiest" position to play is the off-corner OF, there's downside to mass embrace.

Over the past ~decade I have liked about 90% of the Yankees deals and hated about 90% of the Rangers deals, netting me out to one very objective fan. And this Happ deal is great; I don't love him much at all but I like Wade more than Drury anyway and McKinney would have never gotten a shot at the major league level here. 2nd straight deadline Cashman has seemed to pick a select group of prospects to hold and make the rest of them available for short term upgrades.

Osuna to the Astros for probably nothing.

Really bad asset management since the Jays were already thinking of trading Osuna at last year's deadline because they didn't like who he was hanging out with or his training program in the winter in Mexico.

Jays were out of it last year, why not trade him then? Or in the offseason? They had planned since the offseason to trade him today if the Jays were out of it. There was 0% chance they were competing this year.

Not going to pretend I understand dumping Adam Warren for nothing but int'l pool money unless there's another trading coming that's going to bump them right up against the luxury tax.

A few predictions for today ...

1. Archer gets dealt and is a difference maker.

2. If Harper does get traded, its going to end up not costing the acquiring team that much in retrospect. Everything would have to move so quickly that the return will likely be a top prospect that's fallen out of favor, but not yet publicly.

2a. I wonder how close Cleveland would be to getting Harper if they still had Mejia.

True but I find that if you're planning to trade someone at the deadline you might as well trade them in the off season when there are more suitors and before something goes wrong. Blue Jays can't trade Donaldson right now as well because he's hurt. They would have gotten a shitload for him in March.

Agreed on Donaldson, but the RP market will always be hot at the deadline because its the one position where every single team in contention could see an instant upgrade. No one's 7th best reliever is better than Brad Hand so Brad Hand's market is everyone and you can find the most desperate.

I guess baseball has really changed. The goal used to be to have the starter go as many innings as possible.
Now a team wants 4 closers. Did the Yankees grabbing Britton so that Robertson will be used in the 6th make sense?
Chapman is the lefty and it would make sense for him to be used whenever the other team's star left-handed bat come up, either in the 7th, 8th or 9th then have whoever else close. But that's not how it works.

Right, Chapman is a dick who needs to know he's the 9th inning closer and for some reason the Yankees cater to that so its really just about the 6th-8th. Yankees needed a lefty because Shreve's numbers are fine but he's unreliable at the biggest times, Britton was the best value bet out there and cost nothing of significant importance.

Baltimore running out one of the absolute worst pre-September lineups you're going to see. 6 of 9 hitters under .300 OBP, highest is .322. Adam Jones has the highest WAR at 0.4.

This Nationals + Shawn Kelley thing is pretty weird. Like, its impossible to know for sure who's right without the background, but I'm leaning towards the club on this one. Without context or postgame, it sure does look like a veteran reliever slamming his glove down and glaring into the dugout because of a few earned runs in a massive blowout.
