getting sucked out of an airplane

Post by Brontoburglar »

I can't even imagine being the people that helped that poor woman not fly out of the airplane completely. ugh.

I *think* this is Southwest's first fatality accident (I could google I'm sure)

"Something is wrong with our plane! It appears we are going down!" passenger Marty Martinez said in a livestream video as he breathed through an oxygen mask. He said on Facebook that an explosion outside the window injured a woman sitting next to it.

I also can't imagine being someone who thought it would be a good idea to livestream something like that

Fun seeing this when my wife was flying Southwest today.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

The window blew out and they de-pressurized at 32,000 feet. The pilot (one of the first female Air Force pilots I think I read) did an unbelievable job getting the plane to the ground safely.

I listened to the ATC line on that. She was as calm as could be. "Is your plane actively on fire right now?" -- "No, but part of it is missing."

Not "the engine blew up", not a hint of panic. Just a simple statement. Part of plane missing.

But will Tom Hanks play her in the movie? Although to be fair probably Meg Ryan is more appropriate.

And the movie ends with the two of them about to crash into a mountain while flying on their honeymoon with "Isn't It Ironic" playing, sending J-Lo into a frenzy and ruining an otherwise promising date.

This plane was headed for Albuquerque. I like to fly southwest. And I also like sitting in the row closest to the wing because turbulence is a teeter totter effect and the center is the fulcrum. So there's "less" turbulence. Greeat.

The pilot was actually turned away from the Air Force. (Ooof)

For what it's worth, when one engine goes out there's still another one. So thankfully they both didn't blow up or else that thing would be a falling object.

The awesome movie you guys are putting together needs more Kareem Abdul Jabaar.

I just keep thinking about Friends with Benefits
All I'm saying is,
it wasn't so much the pilot's skill
that landed that plane on the river
as much as the mechanics of the aircraft.
Are you saying
that Captain Sully wasn't a hero?
No, no.
There were just other factors.
Are you not an American?

My cousin flew Southwest from Houston to Florida a couple of months ago. She reposted a picture on FB this morning that shows her two kids posing with the pilot. Same pilot that'll revive Tom Hanks' drag career.

I’m pretty sure I’d have succumbed to the impulse of knocking it out of his hands, telling him it was a distraction to everybody around him. Put it another way: if everybody was in the middle of livestreaming themselves crying into a smartphone, chances begin to creep upwards that they’d miss instructions that could save lives. Not sure that’s too much of a stretch, either.
