Also, had no idea that Barbados once had to defend both goals in a qualification match.
Yeah, the desire to avoid Brazil could make for a weird ass game.

The Japanese keeper made the save of the tournament around the 32nd minute.

Japan are down 1-0. They played the most ridiculous lineup today, making 6 changes claiming fatigue.

Colombia up 1-0 on Senegal. As it stands, Japan would go through on yellow cards over Senegal 3 to 4.

I counted wrong, Japan has 4 yellow cards to Senegal's 6.

for each game, yellow cards are -1, two yellows is -3. straight red is -4.

The only fitting way for this group to end is for Japan to start wasting time, thinking they're safe, only to then get booked.

I have Japan with 4 yellows. They picked one up today.

Japan might have been compelled to not just be happy to fart away the last 10 minutes or so of a loss if they knew that they only had a 50/50 chance of going through.

Yeah, on the other hand, seeing yellow cards have an actual impact on going through is somewhat laudable.

That said, I would think goals allowed would be a metric put above Fair Play.

that would be impossible,
after goal difference one has to choose either goals for or goals allowed to be a tiebreaker, not both.

Well if goal difference is the same and goals for are the same, then goals allowed will also be the same.

Maybe have a provisional PK shootout after draws in the group stage to serve as an additional tiebreaker. Or just accept this as part of life's rich pageant.

if Senegal and Japan had played each other today then there might have been a provision that if the game is drawn it goes straight to penalties. Euro has done this before.

But with the teams in different cities. it's not possible.

Come on Panama!
Bookmakers BetVictor will be praying Poland and Panama fail to score on Thursday as they bid to avoid a huge bashing to the tune of £663,000.
head of the tournament, punters piled in on a huge 225/1 shot that every team would score twice in the group stages, and only Poland and Panama have failed to do so thus far.
They both play on Thursday, against Japan and Tunisia respectively, and if they manage to score then it will be the first time in the World Cup's history that all teams have scored twice.

They should just change the score to yellow cards until someone scores.

Oh England...

That was a fuck up of epic proportions. I mean, it's sweet that every player got on the field in the group stage, but do they really want to play Colombia that badly?
