Spain have never lost a World Cup game in which it scores 3 or more goals (14-0-0).

Ronaldo has never lost a game in which he scores 2 or more goals (18-0-1).

Only thing that sucks about this game is it really only matters for seeding. Short of some kind of a crazy catastrophe, no way do both these teams not move on. (Especially with Iran beating Morocco.)

Iran boasts the best defense in the world. They now lead the group let's see if they're right or not.

Bananas...that game was bananas.

We had a crowd, including a scientist from Lisbon, in our lunch room crowded around my iPad watching the 2nd half. He went nuts on that free kick. Did about 4 laps around the room.

At the risk of indulging in hyperbole... a free kick could simply not be struck any better than that one. The curve, the power, and in the 89th minute of an epic game that your team is trailing.

Man, that's why we watch sports.

That penalty went into Row Z

There was one penalty missed in the entire 2014 world cup. There have been two missed today.

Absolutely.

The Iceland-Argentina and Denmark-Peru games were nuts, absolutely insane.

What annoys me to no end is people (like the English announcer we got) who would watch that Iceland-Argentina game and disparage Messi. Man - he is that team.

Iceland defends magnificently - they took Aguero out of the game for the 2nd half. And if and when Argentina plays a good offensive team, they will be in huge trouble - their back line looks bad.

And as much as I love Christian Ericksen, I feel so bad for Peru.

I didn’t watch the second half so perhaps the criticism was overboard, but my opinion is that while Messi is awesome, and his career is unimpeachable, he still can be criticized for missing a PK! It’s like how Mariano Rivera was obviously incredible but he still fucked up in 2001 Game 7 (first example that came to mind of a historically great player screwing up in a big spot).

Maybe it’s just me, but the numbering on the German jerseys is way too swastika-ish for my liking. The 2 and 5 freak me out every time I see them.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

I LOVE the art deco number font that was on both Nike kits in yesterday's France Australia match.

Eh, not quite, but not too far either. Should be rooting for Germany since they're somehow the most important democracy in the world now. Might need their help to liberate us one day.

The problem with rooting for Mexico is what is your endgame? I mean, you don't really want El Tri to win the freaking World Cup I hope, right?

The announcers are pulling for Mexico. Which irritates me a bit.

On the other hand, despite having more reasons to root for Germany, sometimes I catch myself on Mexico’s side, as they’re the underdog. So conflicted.
