Ha!!!!

Butterfingers are good. Candy corn is just a waste of sugar, but not offensive. The worst cand as kid were the weird unnamed peanut butterish things wrapped in black or orange wax wrappers, and Mary Janes. Those were just ammo for throwing at your friends.

I'm sure I'd not be a fan, as fucking candy corn should be destroyed.

They've done a spaghetti gose and a hot sauce barrel-aged beer that were getting rave reviews (the spaghetti was the only one I had, it was an excellent example of the "style" like you could taste the basil, tomatoes, pasta, etc. I only needed to drink the 8 oz or whatever.)

I like Butterfingers, but Zagnut is my go-to if I want a peanut forward candy bar.

and I'd put circus peanuts and that vein of candy as the worst of the worst.

The two worst non-fruit things to get on Halloween were candy corn and Brach's hard caramels.

Butterfinger's fine in my book.
Incorrect. Dots. Good n Plenty. Black Licorice. Candy corn is meh. Just don't mix it with peanuts like a psychopath.
Black licorice is what the give out on Halloween in hell. So vile.

Since we were just discussing sandwiches and NJ, here is one that you can pretty easily find in the right towns around here but probably won't find anywhere else lacking a sizable population of people of Portuguese descent.

I had never heard of them before cerrano went to Portugal a couple of summers ago and sent back some glorious photos. We have friends from Portugal, and one of them got a restaurant in town to make me one for my birthday one year (menu hack - learn how to speak Portuguese) but swears he has a couple of places in Newark that are the best. I haven't taken him up on his lunch offer yet.

I can't speak for the recipe up top, other than to say the egg and fries shouldn't be optional.

Never been myself, but my Sister and Brother-In-Law had a nightmarish meal there a decade or so ago.
An interesting followup by the Food Critic who wrote that...

How a Food Critic Plots His Pans
In other words, I tend to write negative reviews, which can hurt the bottom lines of relatively small businesses, only when readers are at risk of wasting their money on the basis of an established reputation. It could belong to a famous chef, a deep-pocketed restaurant group or an institution whose historical and cultural significance reaches far beyond its neighborhood. The subject of my review this week, Peter Luger Steak House, is in the last category; a 132-year-old holdover from the days when a substantial number of New Yorkers had moved here from Germany, it has become famous around the world as one of the city’s original beef palaces.

When an idol falls on its face, the critic who points it out will be greeted as a hero in some corners and, in others, as an idiot, a philistine, an elitist, a liar, a score-settler, an agenda-haver or as some of my Twitter friends put it this week, “a whiny little bitch.”

Back to banh mi ... going scratch tonight, to the point where I'm almost tempted to make mayo so I did every component. Otherwise, its french bread, garlic, brown sugar and fish sauce marinated chicken, chicken liver mousse (as the pate), pickled carrots/daikon, jalapenos, cilantro and mayo.

I was down in Edison on NYE during the day and stopped in at the place I had mentioned and bought 2. Ate 1.5. Jalapeños were cut think and relatively spicy that day.

Also, we were in downtown Millburn today and noticed that there is a Vietnamese cafe there. $11 for pho and $8 for bahn mi is more expensive than the Asian supermarket near work and the place in Edison, but hey it’s Millburn.

Sadly work appears to have halted on the Vietnamese restaurant in Union center. Peeking in it looks like they were almost done. It’s been months...

Anyway, good luck. Nobody else in the house would dare try one so I’ll probably stick to buying them.

Just needs cucumber.

Do you guys like Vietnamese coffee? With the condensed milk? Do you think you would like smoothies with condensed milk? Avocado with ice and condensed milk is amazing but I dont think it exists here.

If I win the lottery I'm opening one.

Absolutely love Vietnamese coffee. Used to work around the corner from a Vietnamese cafe and get coffee a couple times a week there. I would certainly try the avocado smoothie thing, but can't say I've ever seen it.

Agree. That's why people dunk in coffee, but they instantly get mushy and gross.

Maybe you guys are doing it wrong.

Personally I wouldn’t want to dunk something soft in coffee. It would be like a soggy breadstick.

"The Soggy Breadstick" feels like a new euphemism for going flaccid mid-act.

I really want to like Curb, but I just find Larry's character more irritating than funny. I always like Larry David in interviews, but the show just annoys me. Loved Seinfeld, though, and even like Costanza.

Loved it for a few seasons but stopped watching a few years ago. Friend recommended the new season and it's almost like a parody of itself. Larry David has gone from being someone you can identify with as he reacts to every day hassles and stupidity to someone who seems to be looking for a fight in every scene.

I can't really watch it. I've watched some random episodes over the years, and found them funny, but a little bit of the 'cringe' comedy goes a long way for me. That's the reason I've never watched much of 'The Office' as well.

Regional food, yes. BBQ type obviously split by city. And to the extent you can tie an ethnicity to a city as well, so polish-american is above and cuban-american below. Fries on sandwiches above.

Above, for sure. I can get excellent food of every kind in my own area.

Lots of salt and sugar at most establishments in the deep south.
