That was beautiful.

And also crass.

But still, gave me goose bumps.

That's the first time Budweiser made me cry and it didn't involve horses. Oh, and their commercials too.

Budweiser does a really, really good job with those. I won't link it here because it's not relevant here, but they made a similar one after the VGK season last year and it was pretty incredible. I imagine they've done others for specific teams/markets. They have some digital ad people who know what they're doing.

I’m going to be a hater and say that the Wade retirement tour is a bit much for a guy who’s at best the 4th best shooting guard of the last 30 years. But the trend towards excessive retirement tours has been going on for several years now.

Wade is the Henry Hill of basketball players. Sure there were better gangsters out there, but Henry had his finger on the pulse of what it meant to be a gangster, and how to squeeze every last bit of that for his own enjoyment & fame, more than anyone else.

LeBron remains undefeated. First The Athletic ran a brutal longform piece on the Lakers front office, which included these and many other colorful anecdotes.

Then this happened:

If the Lakers don’t back up the Brinks truck for David Griffin ASAP then Jeanie Buss is even more clueless than
I thought.

-LeBron takes a year off (this really only makes basketball sense if it was this year and LA can still tank)
-Klay Thompson will be a Laker
Feeling really good about #1. And I count #2 as already correct.

Am I just getting caught up in the nostalgia, or do the Wade and Dirk send-offs reflect how much more well-liked those two are, both by their peer groups and fans in general, than LeBron is?

I can't believe the Blazers screwed up their attempt to lose last night

The 2-3-6-7 half of the West bracket is wide open now as I think the three best teams in the conference are GSW, Houston and Utah.

Because no city held a not-retiring ceremony for LeBron?

They both stayed with one team for their entire career, so even if there was behind-the-scenes moves about other players, etc., they were just that - behind the scenes. A lot of LeBron's dirty laundry ends up getting aired in public.

Different circumstances obviously, but Wade has played for the same number of NBA teams as LeBron.

Oh, right. I guess I would describe Wade's moves between teams as "harmless".

I like potentially getting the Warriors in the second round more than the WCF.
