I said I was hesitant, I wasn't outright dismissing it or arguing against it.

i'm thinking it over.

Well, you can take it from people living it, and who've lived a pretty long time in this culture... This isn't just political tribalism or an over-reaction to a pretty shitty human being... There is absolutely no precedent to the rhetoric (and actions) of Trump. It is by orders of magnitude, over the top radicalizing language he uses.

* - Openly calling for his rally attenders to beat protesters. (multiple times)
* - Bad people on both sides after Charlottesville, where counter-protesters were brutally beaten and car drove into a crowd and killed and injured people.
* - Praising a congressman for body slamming a reporter.
* - Encouraging police to be rough with the arrested.
* - Beyond repeatedly demonizing the media (too many times to mention), he sent out a tweet with a video of an animated trump body-slamming a CNN logo. Might be childish and all, but not really when you consider a) how dumb most of his audience is b) all of the nasty shit he says about CNN.
* - The Trump boys were gleefully retweeting hostile crowds shouting at CNN's Jim Acosta.

And that's a pretty quick review, not at all exhaustive. There is no equivalence to THE FUCKING PRESIDENT of the country (and his sons) with a steady drum beat of this shit EVERY FUCKING DAY.

It's insanity, man. And it's creating a really hostile, fucked up environment. Which is exactly what they want.

Taking everything Nonlinear said, which is just plain facts, and the level of cult devotion Trump has, it's amazing there hasn't been more violence.

Thanks.

But I can't get there yet. Because there was a package sent to Susan Collins last month. And poison has been sent Trump and Mathis in the past. And as was discussed in another thread, secret service probably has stories about Obama and Dubya.

So again I hesitate agreeing with those who simplify it by saying this wouldn't have happened without Trump. There is a history of this. As you said, you've lived this culture for a long time.

You are confusing who is being targeted with who is creating the atmosphere. Trump, Mattis and Collins being targeted actually proves the point. Trump's rhetoric over the last 3 years is radicalizing BOTH SIDES. Pointing at that an extremely fringe politician (Maxine Waters) said some heated stuff and trying to falsely claim equivalency with (repeating now) THE FUCKING PRESIDENT is moronic and obviously a boogeyman play by Fox News and the rest. You understand, no one listens to Maxine Waters, right? The only reason she has a high profile right now is because she's used as a tool by the far right. I don't know if you get that, because you seem to watch Fox a decent amount, which can really fuck with your perspective.

I'm not really debating you, because it's really not a debatable issue. 25-30 percent of the country has been fed outright falsehoods, fear-mongering, xenophobic, race-baiting content for more than 2 decades. Again, that's not an opinion, that has been documented by hundreds of articles and dozens and dozens of books.

This isn't about the gut feelings of someone living in Calgary. No offense. There are knowable facts at play here. This isn't my gut talking. What was once the radical right (most of the content on Fox News, Breitbart, Drudge, etc.) used to be red meat for the conservative masses, not taken all that seriously even by most moderates in the GOP. But the lid was kept on things overall because it wasn't really mainstream. You now have an extremely ignorant and belligerent president driving a daily discourse that lives in the gutter.

We've had not so great presidents in the past. But there was decorum and an ultimate sense of trying to keep shit together. This guy is pretty obviously trying very actively to upend this order. He is actively creating chaos. Think about his cabinet appointments. That was the first salvo.

You have to understand how radical so many of his staff are. This shit isn't normal is a massive understatement.

Dude happened to be in raw footage that was being used for Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 11/9.

These people are fucking disgusting. Like physically gross human beings to go along with how pathetic they are. Deplorable is the correct word. How they co-opted it and made it a term of pride, I don't know.
