But that’s highly unlikely to happen, in any form. He’ll need to be beaten at the ballot box.
I think this a solid point about Democratic strategy because Trump being impeached will throw lots of "middle of the road" voters to their side, allowing them to take over both the legislative and executive branches. They would then likely keep with more "middle of the road" policies to keep those voters happy, leading to the status quo prevailing. There would likely be advances in areas like gerrymandering, voters' rights, and so on, but those actions will only be taken far enough to help keep their side in power.

Trump isn't going to nuke the ocean to prevent hurricanes. He's just going to nuke Puerto Rico.

I'm wondering if this comes back to Justice Kennedy resigning suddenly, and eventually leads to blow back about Kavanaugh being on the court.

Fighting to declare a supreme court justice invalid would require actual courage, let alone relative-to-these-dems courage.

He floated an executive order to outlaw birthright citizenship as well, arguably even more dangerous. Hard to see how SCOTUS would let that fly -- the 14th amendment seems pretty clear -- but I've learned not to let myself be surprised any more.
My wife was born abroad while her father was in the Air Force. This isn't the same situation obviously, but both of her parents were immigrants (her dad became a US citizen before she was born) too. Doubt things would go as far as affecting her, but like you said not much would surprise me anymore.
So, um.

It was a fuckup. It happens under all presidential administrations. If you want to be honest, given the reality of the political situation, the media landscape and our current society that there are no major media fuckups under this administration is pretty amazing

I didn't watch the clip from his show, but just saw some headlines and Tweets about it. I was suspicious about the idea that Trump's tax returns would indicate who cosigned his loans. That doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would be in a personal tax return. But then, I'm not a pretend billionaire, so what do I know.

Fuck them. So a journalist didn't go through all the proper channels. Big deal. The other side continue to promote disproven conspiracy theories like Seth Rich and Pizzagate and now Benghazi. It doesn't matter to those fucks.

If Trump started dropping N-Bombs in the middle of the State of the Union, and CNN played the clip, there'd still be Trump supporters calling CNN Fake News like they doctored the video. Fuck them.

Could it be that the loan documents are supplemental and therefore included? I could imagine for wealthier folks, they have to provide more documentation.

I gotta say, while it was weird of Trump to draw on the hurricane map, it was also unnecessary to make a big deal out of him saying Alabama. If that projection he drew on had held for another day, Alabama would have been in the predicted affected area. He wasn't wrong about that. Now, maybe he said it after the path had changed (I don't know), but in the range of Trump gaffes, this doesn't rate at all.

You're thinking too much.

He said it four days after the projection he was showing yesterday and his comments caused TNWS to immediately release a statement saying Alabama was not in danger. A normal human being would've ignored it and moved on. Maybe said "oops". But this petty mutherfucker can't let it go while a neighboring country has been destroyed and many states are still in danger. Fuck him.

It wasn't a "big deal" that he made a mistake, but it was newsworthy to mention it in the context of the NWS being forced to issue an immediate correction. It became a "big deal" when he attacked the press for reporting on it and then doubled/tripled/quadrupled down on not admitting he made a mistake.

And really, that's the "big deal" here. The absolute pettiness. I saw someone tweet yesterday that he isn't the first president to lie from the Oval Office, but what was significant was the cheapness, and the obviousness, of the lie.

[exhausted voice] Can you imagine if Obama, before a hurricane hit land during the prep phase, contradicted the national weather service to imply an area not in danger was in danger?[/exhausted voice]

Seriously.

If it was the President of Turkmenistan or Fiji or wherever, that clip would have been aired on "The Daily Show" and people would have laughed over the two-bit cheesiness of it.
