It’s 2019, why the fuck would a politician still believe that the people want the facts?

The real perplexing question is why Trump is so afraid of Biden. If I were Trump I’d want Biden to get the nomination.

Trump and the GOP think the progressives have no chance. Biden is the known. Hes the threat.

I think you guys are overthinking it. Trump would probably do the same exact thing to a progressive candidate if he or she had family members doing sketchy overseas consulting work to cash in on their proximity to power. Although Trump has no business criticizing anyone for corruption or nepotism, Hunter Biden’s foreign consulting work is unusual and would get scrutiny during a general election campaign even against a “normal” GOP opponent.

From the WaPo opinion section:

It’s time, Speaker Pelosi
Given all this, what happens if Democrats don’t try to use all the tools of accountability at their disposal, and Trump wins reelection? Democrats should seriously ask themselves what would be left of our democracy at that point — and whether they want such an outcome to be part of their legacy.
How do you remove a Speaker of the House? Nancy needs to step the fuck down and let someone with actual fucking courage to do it.

Yes. Used to one rep could call for a vote, now it takes a majority of the majority party to call for a vote on the Speaker.

I’m legitimately about this close to spending the $300 to get on the Dem primary ballot against my sitting Congressman as quixotic as it might be just to be able to throw some bombs in the media calling him a pussy.

I know some of you thought I was fucking with you but this is a real scandal now in Michigan. Michigan has a lot of right-wing dildoes but there’s a line with fucking with Michigan traditions. If Trump narrowly loses the election by Michigan only like Gore lost Florida remember this. (I’m more convinced than ever that the narrowest MOV (either way) is going to be Michigan.

Totally agree. I dont see what benefit Pence thought he would get out of that. But the backlash is huge.

No "benefit" per se, but the entire incident is indicative of a certain worldview. The rules are for other people - they are in power and can do whatever they want.

Yeah but (as quoted in the USA Today article that Brian cited):
When President Gerald Ford visited the island in 1975 — the only sitting president to make such a visit — he and first lady Betty Ford traveled by horse-drawn carriage.

If you can't conform to the norms and laws of the place you're visiting, don't visit. It's true for any of us visiting a foreign country and it's certainly true for visiting any place in the United States.

It's just that simple.

In many ways, the 70s were a more dangerous time.

Domestic Terrorism In The US in the 70s

TWICE in September 1975 (couple months after his trip to Mackinac) Ford was the target of assassination attempts.

The mere fact that the Vice President is given an 8 vehicle motorcade to travel a country road in a summer resort town (on an island for christ sake) speaks volumes... and not about the inherent danger of travelling to an island.

At this point, if Pelosi doesn't come out in favor of impeachment I think she probably will be replaced as Speaker. The train is leaving the station and it's only a question of who is on it.

It's gonna happen now....

And....I will bet any amount of SwampBucks that the House Dem's will pass multiple articles of Impeachment, and Moscow Mitch will not even allow it to be considered in the Senate. He will say something along the lines of 'The voters will be able to decide in November 2020'.

We've known all along that Mitch is going to stonewall this. Of course he is. The point is to get these assholes on record, and let's continue to put a spotlight on the dozens of impeachable offenses this shitbird had committed already, and the meter is running.

Absolutely...This Ukraine stuff is so beyond the pale, that the Dem's really have no choice. Its like Trump is daring them to do it.

And Moscow Mitch won't let it go any further....

Trump has been daring them to do it since before the Meuller report, when I'm pretty sure polling started to show it was somewhat of a winner with his base and a toss up with independents. There are tweets to this effect, I'm just too lazy to dig them up.

Seems pretty basic, at a minimum, to get all the members plus the party itself on record as protecting Trump. Actuarial charts, if nothing else, say the post-Trump era will be in the near-to-mid future so there's legit value in even a futile attempt.

So this is happening. Trump will become the third president in American history to be impeached by the end of October at the latest.
