So Trump didn't know Bolton was the Uber-Hawk when he hired him? Everyone knows that Bolton wants to invade everyone.

Disagreeing with John Bolton might be the most sensible, presidential thing Trump has done.

This is a situation where you're coaching a basketball team full of 9 year olds. And the one kid who always turns the ball over catches the inbounds pass and instead of dribbling, he just heaves it 3/4 length of the court towards the basket.

And it goes in.

He's still the weakest link, but you can't do anything but throw your hands up and laugh.

Commerce Chief Threatened Firings at NOAA After Trump’s Dorian Tweets, Sources Say
The Secretary of Commerce threatened to fire top employees at the federal scientific agency responsible for weather forecasts last Friday after the agency’s Birmingham office contradicted President Trump’s claim that Hurricane Dorian might hit Alabama, according to three people familiar with the discussion.

That threat led to an unusual, unsigned statement later that Friday by the agency, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, disavowing the National Weather Service’s position that Alabama was not at risk. The reversal caused widespread anger within the agency and drew accusations from the scientific community that the National Weather Service, which is part of NOAA, had been bent to political purposes.
Serious question: Why would the Commerce Sec'y threaten people at NOAA? Is NOAA part of the Commerce department?
Yeah, NOAA and NWS are part of Commerce. Probably grew out of nautical trade and related issues back in the day.

Something I didn't know before sleuthing this out... Trump has been trying to appoint AccuWeather CEO Barry Myers as head of the branch that oversees this stuff. From wiki:
As an AccuWeather executive, Myers lobbied unsuccessfully to restrict or undermine the National Weather Service, a governmental service which provides free weather forecasting and thus competes with AccuWeather's business model.
The fuckery is never-ending. It's really surreal. Find ANY excuse to fuck with EVERY agency.

Sometimes I think Shapiro is doing bizarre performance art. OTOH, Rush Limbaugh doesn't believe most of the shit he spouts, but he'll say whatever it takes to make his money. If I didn't have a conscience, I'd be a RW pundit or televangelist a bilk fools from their money. Such an easy way to make millions.

In the least surprising news of the day, Bolton is claiming he offered to resign last night, as opposed to Trump asking for his resignation.

Dude's coming to town this weekend. His entourage footprint is insane.

A C-5 and 2 C-17s worth of stuff show up ahead of time. Then AF1 on Monday. I'm probably going to assist in the download because why not?

Schools have already been closed for the day in Rio Rancho. Also, that's my birthday. So, that's neat.

My best guess is that this was put together by some sort of Republican group in New Mexico and the Rio Rancho mayor is a Republican.

Tim Keller, ABQ's mayor, is a Democrat who, along with having a strong resemblance to Aaron Eckhart, marched in this year's Pride Parade to show his support for the LGBT community. ABQ in general is very much NOT a Republican stronghold.

Also, logistics might be a big deal. Anything where a rally would take place would shut down the city and probably attract protestors. So driving 25 minutes up the road is probably best for all involved anyway.

It was basically a backwater until Intel put a plant there in the 80s, it's (for the most part) not in Bernalillo Co (ABQ) so they are really trying to distance themselves from the unwashed heathens of the 'querque.

and sopapillas should never be stuffed. They are to be enjoyed with honey after the meal.

It is both. I showed that film to my parents and froze it when the name Rio Rancho was shown on screen. Lots of New Yorkers got scammed on their purchases of Rio Rancho property. The film may have said Arizona but they meant New Mexico.

It is mostly in Bernalillo county. It borders ABQ. Mostly starter homes. I wouldn’t say it is upscale really - just middle class. Corrales is much nicer.

I agree with Rush on sopapillas.

I mean, ok. And what not. And if you don't, someone else will be in the photo op. But if it's you, your presence helps bolster his propaganda about the troops all love him and such, right? And even though your politics are certainly not his, you would be assisting him in the propaganda? Just curious.

Technically, no. There are strict DoD regulations about the troops. No matter who the president is any and all photo ops are apolitical in nature, officially. My politics and all other politics of all other people don't matter.

Plus, the president is my ultimate boss. He is commander in chief per the Constitution. So if he demands the entire base greet him, then the entire base greets him.

Also, apparently the volunteers were identified already and I'm not going to be there. Oh well.

BUT...I can totally understand your confusion.

Tulsi Gabbard is a Major in the Army National Guard, a Congresswoman, AND is running for president as a Democrat.

Adam Kinzinger is a Lieutenant Colonel pilot in the Air National Guard, a Congressman from Illinois, and an unabashed Republican.

The difference with them and me? I'm active duty. I'm always on the clock all the time 24/7 until I'm officially separated. They work a weekend a month, two weeks a year, and have to be apolitical only when activated. They are free to be whoever they want to be those other days.

And yes. It pisses me off too. I can never "be me" until I'm done with the military, officially.

I saw some news updates and finally just got this. Did not realize Mariano Rivera is a Trumper. Gross.

ETA: I think Woods and Jordan probably would have gotten a Presidential Medal of Freedom at some point in their lives anyway. Rivera I wonder about, but I don't know whether that's because he's naturalized or what. Can't question his achievements on the field of course, but don't think we should be bestowing the Medal of Freedom on any Hall of Famer just because they like Trump.
