Damn, House Dems are not holding back on this CODEL trip. One Rep called it a tantrum of a man-child, Adam Schiff said it's another example of the President having the mentality of a 5th grader and lacking the ability to control his reactions. The beauty of it, is Schiff said it in such a calm, matter of fact way, it doesn't sound like name calling or insults, just stating a fact. Kind of like how Trump has normalized scandalous and criminal behavior with his daily scandals and revelations of additional crimes, let's stop publicly discussing Trump like he is the President, but simply refer to him as the petulant, emotionally disturbed toddler that he is.

So weird that nothing moved the needle at all with his base, but now that he is holding out to fulfill his biggest campaign promise, he is losing support? WTF? Maybe the Russia stuff is finally starting to persuade some people, but I doubt that. So fucking weird, why am I even trying to understand the thought process of his base?

There's really almost nowhere for the losses to come from except from his base at this point.

I'm a little surprised he hasn't said "fuck the wall" and let everyone know if there's ever another non-white murderer the blood is on the hands of all the Dems plus the Republicans he doesn't like. "I, Donald Trump, tried to prevent this imminent future attack and would have but you didn't let me this is your problem." Obviously he doesn't really care if a wall is built, he cares that his base cares, and if his base doesn't care why not walk away now.

His brand is he can negotiate any deal and he doesn't back down. He would much rather uphold his brand than put a paycheck in a million workers' hands.

I don’t know. Maybe the racists are mad at him because deep down, they know he’s not going to get the wall built to keep the brown people out.

Eh. I know that's his deal, but he's been bankrupt a half dozen times so its not like he's never publicly failed. You'd think at some point he'd realize its not happening here and decide to reshape the message.

But that would tarnish his businessman reputation. His base don't care he has gone bankrupt so many times. I heard it all during the election. "He is a savvy businessman, just what this country needs." That is what his brand is on and that is what gets him the next deal. If he backs down, then he loses some of that and to him that is more important than anything else. In his eye's, the bankruptcies were the fault of others. He just lent his name to those failed businesses.

Remember Michael Cohen is going to be testifying to Congress publicly in three weeks. That’s gonna be some crazy ass shit. I think there’s a legit argument to be made that Trump and the GOP are keeping the government closed because once it re-opens shit really starts hitting the fans with House investigations.

Almost all of what has been going on up until now could be rationalized by his base. It was pretty abstract stuff.

But being a huge, immature asshole about this shutdown is the easiest for even the dummies in his base to understand that having a reality TV president might not actually be cute or funny. That just sticking it to the snowflakes is only entertaining when the consequences are abstract.

This shit is real for many of them now. And once you turn that corner of understanding, Trump is fucked on a very deep level.

I'm surprised more wasn't made of the guy getting through TSA in Atlanta with a gun.

That's going to be his distraction...trying to play up the threat of a security failure or, God forbid, an actual event takes place...blaming it on the Dems for forcing him to shut down the government

Again, polling is very clearly showing that Americans are blaming Trump for the shutdown. By like 20+ points.

True - and sad.

But at this point it really seems like delaying the inevitable.

It also helps that Trump said very clearly that this was his shutdown when it started. Not sure why he is confused that shifting blame isn't working at this point.

Still think it's as relevant as it was yesterday after the BF article that Klobuchar was questioning Barr on suborning perjury this week

ETA: I also think it's entirely reasonable (and very possibly accurate) to read that statement from the special counsel and not see it as a broad dispute of the report.
