Yup, pretty much.

Joe Biden Wants To Be The Donald Trump For White People Who Don't Like Donald Trump

Gonna be a great day when a vast majority of baby boomers are gone forever.

Chance that the candidate would beat Trump on the election map (b/c I'm assuming they'll win the popular vote) vs.

Chance that the candidate if elected would be able to effectively move policy to fix the damage that Trump did.

Because that's clearly not the same thing.
My concern is that too much focus on the former, and not enough on the latter, might just lead to a more polished and less erratic form of Trumpism arising even if the Dems win in 2020. Someone like Tom Cotton who is much smarter and more polished than Trump, but ideologically vey close, could do a hell of a lot of damage. Unless the underlying conditions that gave rise to Trumpism are addressed — crippling economic inequality, dissatisfaction with forever wars, the opioid epidemic, etc. — his toxic brand of right-wing populism will remain appealing to millions of Americans. That’s why I prefer Warren and Sanders to the field: they’re the only two candidates that I’m convinced are aware of the scope of these underlying issues.

What an amazing clip, in light of the current state of political news coverage. While in the pre-internet days, your campaign would implode on a lie, in the internet and 24 hour news network days, you can get away with a lie, as long as you do or say something even worse within the next hour. Just keep piling on the levels of horrible, and nothing that came before can stick.

Here's the problem with even the left-leaning, super-religious politicians. They can't help but dabble in the theocracy.
In particular, Buttigieg believes exemptions are appropriate for people who can’t be vaccinated for medical reasons. Personal belief and religious exemptions should only be allowed in states that aren’t facing a public health crisis and where herd immunity rates of vaccination are maintained.

Yeah, that’s a terrible idea by Buttigieg. Religious beliefs should never be used as a justification for risking a public health crisis.

Apparently he's backed off this stance, which to me is further proof that he's not ready for prime time.

ETA - not that I disagree with his latest stance (no exemptions).

Same issue with Beto. You don't need 1,000 pages of policy on everything like Warren, but you have to have conviction on everything and he's malleable.

Thank you. That's what I've been trying to say to people when I tell them I don't like Beto. I see him as just another fucking white guy with Ivy League hair who has no substance.

I don't favor Beto, but he has enough substance that we can be sure that if he were president, he'd be 97% the same as any other plausible candidate.

Plus, I don't think it's a good idea to show too much "substance" so far before the primaries. Displaying the kind of substance that is going to please the people paying attention now, the folks on political twitter, will just make it harder to beat Trump in the general election.

I mean, good God, do we really want someone to come out in favor of reparations, i.e., "taxing you even though you didn't own slaves to pay those other people because their great-great-great grandparents were slaves". If I were a dictator, I'd figure out a way to pay reparations. But that will just kill the Democrats in the election.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Sure, that's fair, and abolishing prisons and all that can stay to the side. But when there are topics that can cleanly be divided by left / right / libertarian or whatever, you can't need to be told the right answer.

A nice example of wasteful spending. The $71 million will be funded under the capital budget which gets it's money from state capital funds, tuition and fees, philanthropy and others. Their plans go to $85 million if they get some donations. The current art museum attracts 100 people per day. They think the new museum will bring in over 1,000, but there is no way someone will drive 3 hours to State college when they can get to DC, Philly or New York.

This is bad idea. Higher Ed is already highly wasteful in their spending and really only feels pressure when students/parents see the bill. Removing that obstacle and not applying some type of tuition limit would just increase prices even more. I'd rather see a tuition cap. Anything above that would have to be internally funded by the school itself.

I sincerely hope that all these 30+ point advantages Biden has according to polls evaporate and someone else takes Iowa, New Hampshire...etc.

Ultimately, I'll vote for him over Trump every day of the week, but he's basically Howard Schultz. He maintains the status quo for Baby Boomers and the ultra wealthy. He should be as toxic as Hillary Clinton, but it seems like Democrats just don't care.

But let's say Trump wins a second term... It was deserved. Full stop. Until Baby Boomers go away forever, we're fucked.
