Am I crazy to think that the Chiefs should have tried an onside kick at the start of OT? Their defense played well for 3.5 quarters but seemed completely gassed at that point.

yes, because only a touchdown beats you and if you get a stop before the Patriots get to field goal range then a field goal wins it

I don't know if their defense was gassed. It's not like the Pats matched down the field in 4 plays.
They forced 3 3rd and 10s in OT. Brady just made great throws when it mattered.

Plus, onside kicks are impossible this year with the new rules of kicking team not allowed a running start.
The league needs to look at that.

This is exactly correct. It's rarely the right play and more importantly those guys should have gotten off the field in two or three different spots but didn't get it done. So no but either way onside is dead in NFL til rules change.

Should have kicked it onside after they took the lead late in the fourth. I mean it’s not like Brady is going to run out of time, with 2:00 to play and all his time outs.

Are you saying Gladys Knight is not on the cutting edge of pop culture?
Gladys' career certainly justifies choosing her to sing the anthem at the SB in her hometown, but she can fuck right off with her Kaepernick take.

Yup. I don’t know about lacrosse, but hockey can pretty easily fix itself without changing the entire sport. Football can’t.

Not to mention with the new rule changes the success rate on onside kicks was ~3% this year.

Bob Sutton's job status wouldn't be mentioned at all if Dee Ford didn't line up offsides.

If they win the AFC (and then lost the SB) I wonder how hard it is to fire Sutton. If they got to the SB and won I'd wonder if Sutton's departure would be framed as a retirement. Maybe it would be a retirement win or lose.

it's almost like the Saints are the first team to ever have a bad call go against them

No but you dont often see a defender decleat a receiver from behind the play a full beat before the ball gets there regardless of whether a call is made. Just doesnt happen very much period so when its apparent to spectators at real time speed you would expect a call. Combine with the timing and the game id say its ok to bitch about it. More importantly, the guy asks the right question to the right person. What are you going to do about your crappy officiating (and id add overly complex rules). The answer is to review penalties. Im against it just because I dont like replays generally but if youre going to stop then game anyway then review anything you like just start defaulting to the field ruling unless absolutely apparent like this one. I didnt even like the calls that went for the Pats in the AFCC. Right or wrong theyre splitting hairs too much. If it takes more than 10 seconds then its too close to overturn. The idea that they would cobble together separate angles to infer something that happened in between is stupid.

After the Steelers game earlier this year, I can't believe the Saints would ever complain about a call again. Never heard one of them bitching about the worst PI call in NFL history.

That take on the outcome didn't click with me until right after the game when I was texting with a still very bitter (over the Favre bounty NFC Championship game) Vikings friend of mine.
