Does Toronto stand a chance for a good result this season? I've been out of the loop with MLS for a couple of seasons.

So Toronto goes out of CCL but extend Jozy A.
The Other MLS sides move on...KC over Toluca, Red Bulls move on,Houston through, and Atlanta comes back with a 4-0 win to move on.

Regular Season kicks off this weekend.

At 9 months, the MLS season is perhaps 3 or 4 months too long.

Outside of the NHL is there a league where this is not the case? Maybe not 3 or 4 months, but most leagues need to tighten up or get creative for in season value

Nine of first ten for FC Cincinnati are against playoff teams from a year ago, and first two are on the road at Seattle and at Atlanta. For a team that has built kinda a weird roster heavy on 6s but lacking a real option at 10. It's gonna be...rocky for awhile, I think. Still, they have 20,000 season tickets sold, so the fan buy-in continues to be awesome. Looking forward to Saturday - they are national against Seattle.

We'll be at the Rapids opener tomorrow. Supposed to be around 25 degrees at kickoff and should be snowing throughout the game, starting a couple hours before game time. I'm looking forward to it, my wife not so much.

Guessing you mean the NFL.

And you are absolutely right. NHL and NBA are played indoors so it doesn't seem quite so ridiculous. But Toronto plays its first two games in Philadelphia and Toronto - in March. Couldn't the league have had the Northern teams play against indoor teams or in the south or west?

This.

I've always been ready for the season to start in the spring, and in the fall I've never felt impatient for it to be over.

So, yeah, it was cold. Coldest game in MLS history, 18 degrees at kickoff. The wind blowing in through the north end of the stadium was the worst part though. If it was just the cold and snow it would have been ok. My beer was getting slushy and the lettuce sticking out of my burger froze before I could eat it... Down a man and down 2-1, and with my 7 year old near tears he was so cold despite all the layers, we bailed at halftime. Made the right choice, but did regret it a little when I saw how the end of the game went down.

Tried to watch the second half on ESPN+ yesterday, and the replay stopped with 2 minutes left, before they even got to extra time. Thanks ESPN...

Hamid has been saying he is the best goalie in the usmnt pool. Then he said he was better than Guzan in the lead up.to the game yesterday. Hard to disagree after the 2nd goal. It was moving but Guzan should be all.over that ball.

I was in town to visit my daughter who’s at DU. Special to see Andre the rookie from there score the 3rd goal.

Yeah, it was cool to see him and Bassett get playing time. Bassett came out for Price after the red card, I'm guessing for someone with more experience given the circumstances. I'm still pretty much a novice when it comes to pro level soccer, but they did seem to play more aggressively on offense than last year, even when they were down a man.

That was a pretty bad goal. I thought maybe he was screened, but watching multiple replays... Nope. You have to account for a swerving shot when the guy over the ball is quality. Bad bad goal.

That said, shut up Hamid. That's some bush league, Hope Solo-level bullshit. You don't talk about other goalies, period.

The offside call on what would've been the go-ahead goal was iffy, IIRC. I was watching at a bar with the sound off. This is just the first time I've talked shit about an MLS game live.

My 15yo daughter was diagnosed with pneumonia on Wednesday.

On Saturday, I took her to RSL's home opener, in 40 degree weather.

I can't figure out if I'm the worst dad ever, or the best.

Quality in the MLS continues to go up...which is why it kills me about the fiasco that is DC's local TV coverage. I won't pay for the FloSports access and as a result won't have TV for most games. And after the news about yesterday's broadcast, I am not sure why anyone would signup....

Well, FCC just destroyed their good vibes week of their home opener by announcing today that they too have inked a deal with that outfit. I am unaffected because I can still use ESPN+ for the FCC games since I am out of market, but it's fuckawful for the fanbase they are trying to grow in Dayton, Lexington etc. Just dumb. There is an over-the-air option for those in Cincy proper but it's a shitty station and signal for those without cable (Star 64). Just moronic.

They got the good vibes back. 3-0 ass-kicking in their home opener as an MLS club over Portland.

10 goals allowed in 3 games for Portland by the way - that seems sub-optimal.

Nick Rimando's farewell tour did not go so great last night. 5-0 drubbing on his last visit to DC (where he started his 20 year MLS career and met his wife who played for the women's pro team..Ben Olsen married them). Wayne Rooney hat trick and a nasty volley were helped by a red in first half injury time and a second yellow (for a red) in the 2nd half.

Would have been fun to watch if the game was not on FloTV.

FC Cincinnati appears to be getting the hang of the MLS thing. First road win, 2-0 over a reeling Revolution. Did it missing five starters from the 11 who started against Portland (four due to international duty and Adi due to injury). Impressive depth for the expansion club, frankly.

His motor and decision making is another level. He was the one who made a perfect pass to set up their equalizer in Atlanta after he came on late, and this was his first start. They are gonna have to make room for him, not sure who sits (hopefully not Alan Cruz) but Saief needs to be starting.
