I think the team will do well. The stadium will be built in a convenient location and there's a pretty big youth soccer culture here. I'm just hoping they get an exciting washed up star from Europe.

The female-owned thing is interesting. In a time when the US women are fighting for equality from US Soccer and proving they are a more profitable product at the US Soccer level, the capitalistic side of this group said....mmmm MLS for us.

As for the washed up Europe stars....yeah they are fun but I would go all in on the Atlanta model. Carlos Bocanegra did amazing stuff in the run up to that team's launch.

LAFC are that good. Crushing San Jose 3-0 at the half.
The San Jose coach has been sent off and wants to fight the ref at halftime.

I will always wonder about Lee Nguyen. How would his career have been if he had not wasted his prime years in Vietnam chasing girls.

The ref in the DC-Red Bulls game last night was a nightmare. The 2nd goal for Red Bulls (PK) was utter garbage and the fact that VAR did not bail him out was insane. On the other hand I got to watch the game because Univison broadcasted via twitter and I won't support Flo Sports.

Also univision's English language broadcasters are fantastic. Not as crisp as the ESPN, Fox, or TBS crews, but not afraid to call out players and officials. My favorite was when Robles went down multiple times and they were just on him about not really being hurt (even after it appeared Robles was really hurt).

It was a clip if the heel. The problem with video review is that it is black and white. No room for interpretation.

I feel were going to see that in the NFL. PI will be called when legs are tangled and VAR cant reverse it.

Olsen's quote hit this best. Let the play go and then have VAR review it. Would have gone the other way. As soon as the red blew the whistle he was burned.

Dynamo can Cabrera the same week that Run DMB says he is hanging them up because he does not want to be on a bad team (not because he does not think he can keep playing).
The Petke episode was bonkers. If you watch the tape, he just agros at the ref for like a full 3 minutes after he gets the card.

But the real kicker is that he goes into the tunnel and makes a fucking SIGN so that he can display the slur when the ref enters.

What the actual fuck is that? And there's no one in the locker room that can get him to calm down at that point? That's bizarre.
I have to say, props to RSL for firing him. That's beyond acceptable. The team seems to be doing well under Freddy Suarez so far, so here's hoping.

Nice goal.yes...best goal in MLS history...no...not even best goal of the night (give that to the DC United goal last night). Vela's goal looked like something from the last 2 minutes of my old man pickup game where the one in shape guy finishes.

Atl's Josef Martinez may have a big injury. Went down late in the game this weekend. He was on a 15 game goal streak. That in itself is crazy.

Playoffs taking shape and DC looked like a decent team last night..been a bit. Still not sure what the story on Acosta is. Went from interest from PSG to picking splinters from his rear.

Wow, only watching the POR/NE game for the super slim playoff hopes of the Rapids, but a crazy finish by NE. Goals in the 87th and 90+7th (penalty) to come back for a 2-2 finish.

Postseason scheduling seems odd:
1) A two week break from end of reg season first round
2) Minn-LAG first round scheduled to compete directly (8:30ET) with Phil-Dal SNF
3) 4-5 day break from first round to Conference semis. Similar break to conference final. Conf Semis and finals midweek.
4) Two week break til MLS CUP

Strange doings from a League struggling to be part of mainstream sports talk in this country. I'm sure TV, park availability all plays into it but pretty inconsistent if they want casual viewers to follow along.

Right, they wanted to fit the playoffs in between the 2 international breaks. I don't love it because of the midweek games, but the solution to that problem (fewer teams) doesn't seem to be on the table.

Yeah, but I don't think they'd be all that great anyway. They're a minor league sport, and like most minor league sports, there are just not that many fans of the league in general, as opposed to fans of particular local teams. (I think this is behind the big push to expand.)

(Nothing real exciting though - we represent a sponsor whom Petke subpoenaed in his lawsuit against RSL.)

Haris Medunjanin Mid Phi
Keegan Rosenberry D Col
Jack Elliot D Phi
Vito Mannone G MN
Brad Guzan G ATL
Daniel Vega G SJ
Stefan Frei G Sea

I turned it on at 2-1. Fantastically fun game. Gonzalez was a bit bonkers and Frei made some big big saves. The Gonzalez save/defender on the line was impressive. Jordan Morris is a sneaky player too.

MLS boosters are overplaying how great the new format is, since most of this weekend’s games would have happened as single elimination under last year’s format. But it sure has been completely nuts.

So the new team in Sacramento will be announced today. Will they be in their permanent stadium before Beckham's Miami team? My only hope, they go with something a little different on team naming. I am not talking crazy "Wiz" or "Metrostars" but maybe Athletic Club (A.C.) or Town or keep Republic. Something just a bit different than United or F.C. I really like Sacramento Athletic Club (SAC) or Sacramento Town (Sac Town).

Sorry to be "that guy" but you play a 34 game season and then you decide the champion with single elimination games?

It's incredibly stupid and honestly makes me care very little as a (now) neutral observer. Even with a DCU win on Saturday, I'm just barely paying attention because the format makes the whole thing so arbitrary.

If they are going to keep adding teams, they need to figure out a less bullshit manner to crown a champion.
