I was looking for a breakdown on this, but what I instead uncovered was it wasn't not a 7 year run, but rather, the best 7 years throughout a player's career. Which frankly, diminishes its value somewhat.

I like the concept, being outstanding in years 1 and 8 but hurt or a down year once or twice in the middle shouldn't be a full metric demerit, but it and most advanced stat lists have major trouble with position shifters. 3B fWAR really stands out ...

Alex Rodriguez: 113.7
Mike Schmidt: 106.5
Eddie Mathews: 96.1
Wade Boggs: 88.3
George Brett: 84.6
Chipper Jones: 84.6
Adrian Beltre: 84.1
Brooks Robinson: 80.2
Ron Santo: 70.9
Miguel Cabrera: 70.6
Scott Rolen: 69.9
Paul Molitor: 67.7
Harmon Killebrew: 66.1
Graig Nettles: 65.7
Edgar Martinez: 65.5

3B leader is also the SS leader, Cabrera has 29% of his career PAs as a 3B, Molitor 30%, Killebrew 31% and Edgar 26%.

From the Ringer:

"Once overlooked in an infield with Altuve and Correa, Bregman has matured into the Astros’ best position player, full stop. This year he led the majors in walks and was the only qualified hitter with more walks than strikeouts"

Barry Bonds did that the last EIGHTEEN years of his career (though he did fall just a bit short of qualifying in three of those seasons and the one year where he played only 14 games obviously.)

So the Angels were aware of his drug issues and didn't fail him into a program?

I'm not gonna kill the Angels too hard here because there's a lot of workplaces that would look at a functional addict and not want to rock the boat too much. I mean if he asked for help and they told him to fuck off that would be one thing but they can't exactly start grabbing grown ass men by the scruff of the neck and demanding they go to rehab. Again this is without knowing all of the specifics of the behavior. If he was a dick once or twice on a cross-county flight that's one thing. If he was shitting his pants in public and tripping on his shoelaces several times a day that's another.

Given that explanation and the joking way that the guy pushed his arm, it ALMOST seems plausible. But it also seems like it's just as likely that it was a bad inside joke that extended from the locker room onto the field.

I only watched it the one time. Has he being doing it the whole season? I don't know - IF I stuck my arm out like that once and then realized what it looked like, I could see myself doing it again real quick and saying like "whoops, can't do THIS! Yikes!"

If he's been talking about it in the clubhouse for 6 weeks and then goes out and does it on the field, or he's being doing it every game, that's different.

This is like when Laura Ingraham did the Sieg Heil - at the RNC convention?

You lock your elbow like that, you put your hand flat to the ground - it's a fucking Nazi salute. It doesn't mean he's promoting the tenets of national socialism. (Though at least that's an ethos.) As others have said, it is almost certainly some stupid joke. But it was clearly a Nazi salute.

Plus he's a fucking bench coach. That means (i) he's old enough to know what he's doing and to know better, and (ii) he can be replaced. He needs to go.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Yeah. If you're in your 40s and that's something you think can be done as funny, you're not supposed to be in any sort of public leadership position. Anything short of "holy fucking shit I saw the video and thats not at all what I was trying to do" and like there was someone super tall in front of him just out of frame where it was a measuring thing has to be a dismissal.

I don't know. I think we're asking for perfection. I mean why would he perform a Nazi salute in a baseball dugout? To who? For who? Why would he even think of it. He didn't think the act was funny, he literally did it wrong. He was three steps below everyone trying to do some stupid high-five to the players coming off the field and once he realized he did it wrong he was mocking himself he was like, 'duh, I'm a moron" and having a laugh about it.

Thats generous. If it were the case, wouldn't he say "as soon as I realized why Liam pushed my arm back ..." versus "I made a mistake"?

I don't think it's asking too much to say "Please don't make a hand signal associated with a group that literally murdered millions and millions of people. At least not in public when you're on TV for Chrissakes." It's certainly not asking for perfection.

I think it is. You'd have to monitor all your actions and think of every political ramification of every action. Plus for this to be malicious, you have to be saluting someone. Do we think he was saluting Hendricks? Is Hendricks Hitler?

The Ingraham one, she's on a stage saluting a crowd. That was malicious.

Dude, are you fucking serious? You don't think the Holocaust was a serious and well-known enough event that you should just know not to make a fucking Nazi salute?

Look, I get the concern about over-policing this kind of stuff. When I was a stupid high school kid, my friends and I sieg-heiled each other - and I have family members who were killed at Auschwitz. But this isn't high school. And unlike the early 1980s, Nazism and eliminationist racism is a public thing.

There is absolutely no excuse or justification. And there is no reason why a business that depends on mass public patronage should retain someone as an employee for even ten minutes after something like that.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.
