I watched her match against Mertens and kept asking myself "why does ESPN keep putting that drag queen on TV"? Turns out it was Andreescu's mother.

WEEK 25 UPDATE

Image Burlington Sports Frogs
- Last Week: 0-6
- Season: 85-72 (1st in Div, Magic Number: 5)
- League Power Ranking: 16th
- Next Week: at Oxnard (2 games), at Middlesex (3 games)

Image Holland Oats
- Last Week: 6-0
- Season: 89-67 (1st in Div)
- League Power Ranking: 3rd
- Next Week: at Kentucky (3 games), vs. Corpus Christi (4 games)

The Frogs and Oats faced off for their second and final head-to-head series of the season and as you can see, the results were shockingly one-sided:

The Oats take the overall season series, 5-1.

The Sports Frogs' slump came at just about the worst time, as the pounding they took from the Oats came on the heels of a sweep by division rivals the Middlesex Offenders, who have closed to within 2.5 games after being down 7 just a week or so ago. The Frogs finish the season with a three-game set at Middlesex. Can they save their season by beating off the Offenders?

With their last victory over the Frogs, the Oats have clinched the Midwest Division title! They'll have less at stake heading into the last week, but can still jockey for a better home-field position heading into the playoffs.

Mean to add before that there were a spate of injuries in the Frogs-Oats series:

- Gunpowder suffered a thumb contusion when colliding with Rams Fanny at first base.

- rass was hit in the head by a pitch from brian and knocked out of the game with "blurred vision."

- P.D.X. pulled a hamstring while running the bases.

All injuries are day-to-day for a week.

Alright, here we go...

END REGULAR SEASON UPDATE

Image Burlington Sports Frogs
The Sports Frogs managed to right the ship in the last week of the season and stave off what would have been a humiliating collapse, finally turning back the Middlesex Offenders and clinching the Northeast Division title.

- Last Week: 4-1
- Final Regular Season Record: 89-73 (1st in Div)
Sports Frogs Win Tight Bensell Conference Northeast Division Race
Sunday, September 29th, 2019
Fans of the Burlington Sports Frogs are certainly optimistic regarding their team's chances to become World Series champions, after it became official that the club has won the Bensell Conference Northeast Division.

"I think our fans think we're the best team in the league and you know what? Our guys think the same thing," said second baseman wlu_lax. "We've got a real good chance to take this title."

It would be the 2nd league championship for the club, which has won the Bensell Conference Northeast Division for the 2nd time.

Manager Johnny Carwash said he's spent many years in pro ball, but there's "just something special" about his current group of players.

"This team has got what it takes to be a champion," he said.

Image Holland Oats
The Oats, having secured the Midwest division the previous week, coasted through the last week of the season with much lower stakes, taking the chance to rest up for the playoffs.

- Last Week: 4-3
- Final Regular Season Record: 93-70 (1st in Div)
Holland Oats Guaranteed Top Spot in Shrew Conference Midwest Division
Tuesday, September 24th, 2019
The excitement in the room was obvious as the Holland Oats players and coaches alike celebrated their Shrew Conference Midwest Division championship.

"A lot of our guys have never been in this spot before," said third baseman P.D.X.. "Our team has never won a World Series, but that's something we want to change this year."

With a record of 89-67, the club has wrapped up the division for the 2nd time.

It will be a "sweet moment for our city and our fans" if the team can bring home a championship, said team owner Guillermo Davila.

NEWS AND NOTES
  • Congratulations to Gunpowder, who tied for the league lead with 46 home runs and led with 156 RBIs!
  • Though he had some rocky outings down the stretch, Sabo became the first Swamp pitcher to log 20 wins in a season, finishing 20-8.
  • In a critical game, EnochRoot had maybe the best single-game performance I've seen from a Swamp player to date:
EnochRoot hit a solo-shot off Rich Duvall in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.
The playoff preview will follow in the next post.

PLAYOFF PREVIEW

Image Burlington Sports Frogs
Coming into the first round with the weakest record of any playoff team, the Sports Frogs will have their work cut our for them as they face the Dundalk Old Bays, who emerged from the pack to take the Mid-Atlantic Division crown. Led by sluggers Angel 'Avenger' Guerrero and Willie 'Mayday' Maestas, the Old Bays finished at or near the top of the conference in most major offensive categories. Their pitching is more middle-of-the-pack, though they have some solid starters led by ace Ben Leslie who will start Game 1 against Sabo.

Since like half the Sports Frogs' roster is from Baltimore, I'm kind of worried about where their loyalties lie when up against the Old Bays (especially BFJ's).

Note: You'll see a poll at the top about the Burlington playoff starters. I'll be going with 4-main rotations in the playoffs, so we'll need to drop one regular starter. Sabo and Brian are a cut above the rest, so it comes down to picking two of chedda, DSafe, and TT. You can check out their stats to help with the decision.

Image Holland Oats
The Oats face a stiff challenge of their own, coming up against the defending champion Corpus Christi Brinkleys, who knocked them off last year. The Brinkleys boast arguably the league's best pitching rotation, anchored by last year's Cy Young winner Rory Strachan and Adan Ruiz. Their offense features its own share of formidable weapons in Wilson 'Bye Bye' Rosiles, Chutaro Kobayashi, and Brendan Thompson.

See the full playoff picture below. In the other matchups, the upstart Regina Monologues defeated the Newark Murder in the Wild Card and will face their Canadian brethren league-best Ajax Fighting Hosers. Over in the Shrew Conference, the Ft. Myers Manatees bumped off the Boise Huckleberries to face the Fresno Business Horses.

Image

I'm planning to stick with the previous years' approach of posting the playoff results on a day-by-day basis, so the first game results should start to appear later next week.

Good luck, Frogs and Oats.

I noticed that as well. Still not sure what happened, unless it was a side effect of me tinkering with the schedule so the Frogs and Oats could play each other. Anyway, it didn't effect the final standings, so just another game to pad your stats.

Guessing the schedule manipulation at the end of the season to get an Oats - Frogs matchup messed with some stuff. The real question is did the players get a bonus game pay...because virtual wlu_lax wants in on that.

Road Win Lifts Holland to 1-0 Lead in DS
The Holland Oats faced a tough opponent in Corpus Christi Brinkleys pitcher Rory Strachan, but did just enough to pull out a win in Game 1 of the Division Series, which they now lead 1-0. The Oats won 4-1 at Selena Field, despite the Brinkleys getting a strong start from right-hander Strachan, who went 7 innings and allowed 1 earned run.

Holland used the timely hitting of Jerloma to capture the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Oats on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.

Jerloma told a Holland Herald reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Selena Field. Slated to start are Rush2112 for Holland and Jimmy Floyd for Corpus Christi.

Meant to add earlier the detail behind that. You tried going from first to third on a single (you were out), and on the slide you suffered a hand laceration. You're still able to play, but it may affect your hitting.

It's the playoffs - got to leave it all on the field...

But slicing a hand open on a base is a bit embarrassing.

HOLLAND vs. CORPUS CHRISTI - DIVISION SERIES GAME 2

Image
Raucous Selena Field Crowd Propels Brinkleys to 7-1 Victory; Series Tied at 1
The Corpus Christi Brinkleys topped the Holland Oats by the score of 7-1 and moved into a 1-1 tie in the Division Series today. The largest share of the credit went to player of the game and Corpus Christi starter Jimmy Floyd, who threw 9 innings of 6-hit ball in the win.

The Oats had trouble solving Floyd, who surrendered 1 earned run on 6 hits over 9 innings.

"I'll be honest," said Floyd. "I was running on fumes at the end."

The next game is scheduled for Wednesday, October 9th, 2019 in Holland. The scheduled starters for the game are Adan Ruiz for Corpus Christi and Moreta for Holland.

The Dundalk Old Bays got a lot of mileage out of their German hurler in Game 2. 138 pitches? That’s awesome.

“You have to be impressed with that level of determination. It just didn’t work out for them in the end,” said the wiley veteran, Enoch Root.

We might need it in game 3, given my year to date.

Don't worry, solid option waiting in the pen.

That’s what Mark Melancon said yesterday.

11.2 postseason innings, one earned run.

By the way, congrats on your postseason wRC+ of 46.

BURLINGTON vs. DUNDALK - DIVISION SERIES GAME 3

Sports Frogs Hammered by Guerrero, Drop Game 3 to Old Bays
The Dundalk Old Bays have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Burlington Sports Frogs, winning 10-4 at Green Mountain Grounds today. Old Bays first baseman Angel Guerrero was named player of the game after he slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. The win cuts the deficit facing the Old Bays to 2-1 in the best-of-5 Division Series.

Dundalk needed the clutch hitting of Mike Mueller to notch the win. The catcher hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Old Bays on top, 3-0. For the game, Mueller had 1 home run and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.

"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Guerrero.

Game 4 is scheduled for tomorrow at Green Mountain Grounds. The scheduled starters for the game are Carlos Leon for Dundalk and TT2.0 for Burlington.
