Says you had to leave that game with back spasms, but were OK in time for the next start. So, stop being a such a spaz I guess.

In today’s action, Burlington defeats the Regina Monologues in 10 innings, 1-0.
Brian Bewilders Monologues

The Burlington Sports Frogs did little to support starter Brian against the Regina Monologues, but it turned out he didn't need the help.

The right-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Monologues, striking out 9 and surrendering 7 hits. The performance from Brian allowed Burlington to escape with the 1-0 win despite an anemic offense.

"Nobody came to me and said ' , we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Brian told BNN reporters following the win. "I'm the guy that will step up for you when you need it."

So far this season Brian has a 9-3 record with a 3.13 ERA.
Yours truly drove in the game winner (a single to RF with an exit velocity of 111.3 MPH. That’s an insane amount of power generated by a guy who only has 2 dingers on the season, sporting a .392 SLG..

NEWS AND NOTES

With the 2019 campaign reaching the halfway mark, it's time for our owners' mid-season reviews.

First up is Burlington owner John Pagel, who's been mostly hands-off to this point, but has a few choice words:
Team Record:
How many teams lose as many games as we have and are still considered a top team? We really need to improve our record the second half of this season.

Upgrade a position:
Thanks for bringing in EnochRoot. I can already see some improvement from where we were before. I'm still looking for a little bit more improvement from him to get us up to a top-6 Center Field, but I can see the upgrade from 2016.

During our time working together, I have been delighted with your progress towards the goals I have set out for you. That being said, when I look at the team's history on and off the field, my overall impression doesn't rank quite as highly.

The final evaluation towards these goals will come at the end of the season. Good luck in the second half!

John Pagel

Next up is Holland owner Guillermo Davila, who is shaping up to be a Jerry Jones-level meddler:
Team Record:
Things are moving in the right direction and it looks like we have the talent to hit our preseason goal of making the playoffs. Our fans will be counting on us to push the team to get it done, so do what you have to do to make the postseason happen.

Upgrade a position:
I don't see an improvement from where we were last year at Shortstop. Please keep an eye out for an upgrade there if you want to keep me happy.

Acquire a player:
Did you think that sneaking in L-Jam would appease me in my request to bring in a Nationally popular player? I guess he's better than nobody, but I strongly suggest you keep working the phones.

Increase Attendance:
I'm not asking for sold out crowds every game, but we need to see more fans than we have been. I know we're up slightly from 2017, but we still have a way to go to reach the target I set for you.

Increase Profit:
I am not pleased with your payroll management. I told you I would like to bank some money, and by my current estimates, you're projected to end up worse this year than when I gave you the goal! If you can't manage money, I don't know why I keep you around.

During our time working together, I have been ecstatic with your progress towards the goals I have set out for you. That being said, when I look at the team's history on and off the field, my overall impression doesn't rank quite as highly.

The final evaluation towards these goals will come at the end of the season. Good luck in the second half!

Guillermo Davila
So, our owners are "delighted" and "ecstatic" with our progress, but also sending veiled threats they're considering firing me if we don't do better.

So I was too tired/dehydrated when I first posted this morning, but I wanted to give the owners' comments a proper Fire Joe Morgan style fisking. First up for Burlington:
Team Record:
How many teams lose as many games as we have and are still considered a top team? We really need to improve our record the second half of this season.
What the fuck? We're 13 games over .500 and have a 5-game lead in the division. I get that the division is kind of weak this year, but was he expecting us to be undefeated or something?
Upgrade a position:
Thanks for bringing in EnochRoot. I can already see some improvement from where we were before. I'm still looking for a little bit more improvement from him to get us up to a top-6 Center Field, but I can see the upgrade from 2016.
Third straight year he has said he wants an upgrade over EnochRoot, then says he is happy with EnochRoot's improvement. Classic negging technique, I bet his goal is to nail Enoch by Year 5.
During our time working together, I have been delighted with your progress towards the goals I have set out for you. That being said, when I look at the team's history on and off the field, my overall impression doesn't rank quite as highly.
"You are doing great but also you are not doing good and I am on the verge of firing you." Got it.

For Holland:
Team Record:
Things are moving in the right direction and it looks like we have the talent to hit our preseason goal of making the playoffs. Our fans will be counting on us to push the team to get it done, so do what you have to do to make the postseason happen.
So far, so good.
Upgrade a position:
I don't see an improvement from where we were last year at Shortstop. Please keep an eye out for an upgrade there if you want to keep me happy.
sancarlos under the gun.
Acquire a player:
Did you think that sneaking in L-Jam would appease me in my request to bring in a Nationally popular player? I guess he's better than nobody, but I strongly suggest you keep working the phones.
Wow, a broadside at L-Jam. That's a Peter Angelos-Mike Timlin level of vindictiveness from an owner to a reliever.
Increase Attendance:
I'm not asking for sold out crowds every game, but we need to see more fans than we have been. I know we're up slightly from 2017, but we still have a way to go to reach the target I set for you.
So either the people of Athens, OH were better fans after all, or maybe the people of Holland have something better to do, like...looking at tulips I guess? Might need to think of some cross-promotional events. If only we had some sort of pop culture entity with an obvious connection to the team.
Increase Profit:
I am not pleased with your payroll management. I told you I would like to bank some money, and by my current estimates, you're projected to end up worse this year than when I gave you the goal! If you can't manage money, I don't know why I keep you around.
You heard him: You guys need to take pay cuts. This wouldn't have happened if you weren't greedy, unlike team owners.
During our time working together, I have been ecstatic with your progress towards the goals I have set out for you. That being said, when I look at the team's history on and off the field, my overall impression doesn't rank quite as highly.
"You are doing great but also you are not doing good and I am on the verge of firing you." Got it.

What in the name of Mark Belanger is he going on about? Doesn't he know that winning baseball teams have a rich tradition of good-glove no-bat shortstops? No wonder I have such a bad attitude.

Looks like Rams Fanny's overall defensive stats are better, plus he plays catcher about once a week so gets a WAR boost from that. I'm not quite sure how to read Zone and Range numbers, etc., but they're all here if you want to take a closer look.
