Sets up Yzerman to become an even greater Red Wings legend and Holland to become even more reviled by the fan base. The young stars are really developing and Yzerman's return comes when the team is expected to start climbing back toward relevance (the defense is a dumpster fire and goalie plan before Yzerman's return seems to be find the fountain of youth for Howard). If things don't work out, it will still be Holland's fault for tying Yzerman's hands with all of his previous contracts rewarding the loyalty of veterans that drove the team into the basement.

So the statue removal...I only know bare bones but it’s going to drastically change the country if that’s a new standard. Which is nota bad thing necessarily but it would be a long undertaking.

(And I’ll acknowledge there are issues with applying modern standards to the past. However, there’s still a gap between being of an earlier time and being an aggressor, dumb and ignorant as one may have been.)

So people with more puck knowledge (and way less biased) than me...was the no goal call on Ovi the right one last night? A big call.

I have heard folks talking about the quality of ice in Carolina. It looked like it really impacted play about half way through each period (or the Caps just stunk at entering the zone, controlling the puck, and making passes last night).

I think the result of the review was correct.

Whether the official was a little too similar to {insert generic Swamper's mom here} and a little too quick to intend to blow, maybe?

So was it the puck should have been frozen or the fact that Ovi's stick moved Mrazek's leg pads

I had to walk back 2 or 3 calls last night. They got that wave off right... very close call, but they got it right.

Actually, the more I look at that replay and review the rule... It's super close, but to me he gets the puck and then makes contact. The rule is a little vague, but I think there's a pretty strong case to me made that it's a good goal.

Whatever. G7 looms.

I not gonna say anything else. I shouldn’t say anything else. I’ll let Jonathan Marchessault say it for me. The NHL should be embarrassed. I’m more embarrassed for the NHL than I am anything. That was a sham. WWE stuff.

OK. So that was news to wake up to.

Saw the replay. That's a joke of a major penalty. I feel bad for Pavelski. He got the shit cross-checked out of him. He went down awkwardly. Stasny had no business finishing him off balance like that. But in no game I've ever seen is that a 5 minute major. That's a 2 minute minor cross-check in ever league I've ever seen or been a part of.

It's a bad collapse, but I feel for VGK fans. That's a screw job.

Noticed watching the penalty that it appears to be full face mask on full face mask crime. Something you don't see in the NHL too often.

All the sad for Vegas ignores the fact that they greatly benefitted from game-changing sketchy officiating in Game 2. It happens. They weren't complaining then. Giving up four power-play goals is on Vegas. Blowing a 3-0 lead halfway through the third period is on Vegas. Blowing a 3-1 series lead is on Vegas. The overtime period started out even. Can't blame the officials for the OT goal. The Sharks put up 48 shots on goal, too.

Looking forward to the series against the Avalanche!

SC - You are absolutely right. There is NEVER a conspiracy to see one team succeed over another. That is always fucking bullshit.

But in this very specific incidence, the officials fucked up. There is NO major penalty in that sequence. It is very basic and fundamental. The optics looked bad and they conjured a major call.

That doesn't negate your point(s). But at the end of the day, the scenario that set up the Knights collapse was bogus.

I'll just add...

Here's how, if you were being letter of the law about this:

* Eakin - 2 minutes cross checking
* Stasntsy - 2 minutes interference, game misconduct for PR reasons.

So you're at 4 minutes releasable. There simply isn't any way to look at what happened and find a 5 minute major.

You guys and Deadspin and whoever can be all "The Knights choked" all you want. That shit was bogus last night. Not for any stupid "The league is out to get Vegas" bullshit, but just due to incompetence. Don't make it complicated.

but do you think some of that was the NHL getting to the refs about don't let another "T.J. Oshie injury" happen without a big call. My official associations sends out emails with video and conversation all the time. I have seen stuff from one game impact how we call stuff in unrelated games with unrelated officials because of this. The only way to really tell if it is a crews bad decision making is to see what their assignments look like going forward.

and yes Ovi's apple was just SICK. Will go up there with his sliding on his back goal (was at that game).

and Wallmark sounds like Walmart with Joe B's accent.

and I hope that the Canes only call Warren Foegele the nickname McLovin (yes I know it is not spelled the same way)

Seeing every other one seed out gives me the slightest bit of solace/company.

The officiating has been so bad and inconsistent in this round. Carolina should have had a PP in the first OT for delay of game.

Really wish the league would just tell the refs to call the game the same as the regular season, and that the Brian Burkes and Don Cherrys of the world would have their platforms taken away. I enjoyed Burke's schtick for a couple months this season, but once you've heard all his zany stories and all that's left is his shit history as a GM, and desire to see more truculence, he gets pretty old.

I think it’s ridiculous to give up that many assets without being able to work out an extension as a condition of the trade though. It’ll be hilarious if Eriksson just decides to sign a massive FA contract somewhere else after the Sharks are swept in April by Vegas.
Given all his injuries that have limited his production, I'm not certain Erik Karlsson returns to the Sharks next season. But, I'm very glad we have him, now. (This post aged well).
