I thought she was fine. She was doubled teamed the whole match which gave Heath acres of space.

To adapt a cliche, that game was like watching women playing with girls. The best Dutch player was their keeper and they never looked like scoring.

Nike knocked it out of the park with the ad after the title. Their shoes don’t work for me but their activism is admirable. And of course I have a shitload of non shoe Nike apparel what with them being a UK sponsor.

She did a nice job sorting out the formations and why the US wasn't tearing up the Dutch as much as they've done to other teams early.

With that said, the possession was massively in the US' favor and the Dutch didn't threaten AT ALL in the first half. I guess it's what comes from them being so dominant early this tournament, that the expectations are out of whack.

That was about as dominant as you're gonna see in a final. Easily could've been 3 or 4 to nil.

Yeah, Carli Lloyd sucks... Sorry if I'm repeating myself, but last summer we were looking for a road trip audiobook for the family, and we listened to Lloyd's memoir. Her life story, from her perspective, and she was soooo unlikable. She was my daughter's favorite player, because we went to a couple Sky Blue games, and she is from NJ. Halfway through my daughter says, "she just isn't a good person." She detailed her feud with her parents, who she didn't speak to for 10 years, and just hearing her version which was surely skewed, and you 1000% took her parents side and felt like she was a demanding ungrateful twat. Same with her long time on-again off-again BF. She portrayed it as she had to put her career first, but she just totally and unnecessarily treated this guy like garbage. And again, her very skewed version of events, you just knew it was all her being a bitch. Then she detailed the horrors of the 2011 WC team, where the entire team turned against Lloyd and Hope Solo. And again, only hearing her side , you were left thinking the rest of the team was right to shun her. And being with Hope Solo against the rest of the team is a sure sign you are on the wrong side.

A few months later, Lloyd was doing some sort of one day clinic for girls. A couple of my daughters teammates were going, so I offered to sign her up. Absolutely not. Did not want to meet Lloyd or train with her after listening to the book.

Last place she was mentioned here, as best I could tell, so...

Hope Solo arrested on DWI, child abuse charges
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Former U.S. women’s national team star goalkeeper Hope Solo was arrested after she was found passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle in North Carolina with her 2-year-old twins inside, police said.

A police report said Solo was arrested on Thursday in a shopping center parking lot in Winston-Salem and charged with driving while impaired, resisting a public officer and misdemeanor child abuse. She has been released from jail and has a court date of June 28, the report indicated.

According to an arrest warrant, a passerby noticed Solo passed out behind the steering wheel for more than an hour with the vehicle's engine running and the two children in the backseat. A responding officer could smell alcohol, and the warrant said that Solo refused a field sobriety test and her blood was drawn instead.

I don't feel like dredging up the old articles, but she has a pretty long and sordid history with alcohol abuse and domestic violence. That stuff took place in the PacNW, if I recall correctly.

Yeah, she got into trouble for beating up a nephew at a family party a while ago:

Police: Hope Solo repeatedly punched nephew, half-sister in the face during family scuffle
Police reports claim that soccer star Hope Solo's family members had just let her back into their lives when she drunkenly assaulted them early Saturday morning in Kirkland, Wash.

Solo pleaded not guilty to two counts of fourth-degree assault Monday afternoon in Kirkland Municipal Court. She was released from custody and ordered not to contact the alleged victims or possess or consume alcohol.
And there was her husband getting a DUI while driving a US team van:

Hope Solo's husband driving U.S. Soccer team van during DUI arrest

And her husband is a real piece of work...he got into trouble multiple times during his time at UW (sexual assault, drunk driving).

I wasn't aware of either of those two incidents. Years ago we had a thread about her and Jerramy Stevens both being arrested for domestic abuse against each other. She had a horrible childhood, but damn, others have had worse and turned it around. Real shame.

You know, it’s easy to sit there and attack Hope Solo for her faults and actions; I’ve done it myself. And while I don’t like her as a person, the best thing that could happen is she gets help and fixes her problems, for at very least her children.

I agree. But, you can’t help a person who doesn’t want to be helped. And based on the fact that one of the things she was most recently arrested for was fighting with the cops, I don’t think we’ve crossed that bridge yet.

I'm not going to go on some big rant here, because I agree with Ljam that she clearly has issues she needs to resolve. Twas the reason I wasn't moved to go pull up those past articles.

But, I'll just say, she is a very VERY difficult person to defend or find much sympathy for.
