8 co-champions. I view this as a failure from Scrips. Find tougher words. Good job by the spellers but just hope when they announced it, the fans started "Let Them Spell! Let them Spell!"

I saw the last two or three rounds and would have gotten one (1) without blind guessing.

how do they find tougher words? They've added geographical places and expanded the word list; these kids are just incredible. Maybe if they give them less time and I don't like that they are allowed to confirm meanings of parts of the word

Head to head knock spelling for the tie breaker. One word, person who spells the fastest moves on. Either type it into an app or old school game show sound proof booths.

And more media coverage. Don't see LLWS ending in ties.

I don't know if you watched, but if you did and were rooting for any of those eight to miss their last word, there's something weird (wierd) with your brain.

I did not. I am honestly conflicted about this event (and televised youth sports too). Competing for the joy of competing is fantastic. Finding something your are passionate about and trying to be the best is great. However, at what age is it okay to start with the heavy media coverage. Some of this is because of the overbearing parents pushing their kids to study study study. Some of this is the TV networks making a buck off of middle schoolers and elementary schoolers. Maybe it was watching the very good documentary a few years ago (no not the Jason Bateman movie...which I also enjoyed).

But if you are going to have a championship, compete...if you want to make everyone feel good...Jamboree spelling events.

Like someone said above, it wasn't because the words were too easy, its because these kids weren't going to miss. It wouldn't have ended.

1-professional coaches (coached 3 of the 8 champs)
2-$600 dollar subscription database of words

But it is about the kids.

If Fox News was broadcasting it, that Erin kid would have got words such as "fish" and "toes."

The new spelling bee champion is WAY better than you. And me. Everyone, really. She might be an avenger.

So, on a whim, I bought this pound of decaf coffee. Should it alarm me that they can't spell correctly on their label?

I narrowed it down to the correct answer (which wasn’t immediately obvious to me because I always have to think about “ie”/“ei”, I think a residual hangup from grade school) and “mlode”.
